Ahoy there land lovers! If there’s one thing the boys love.. it’s toys. But if there’s one thing I love more, it’s good toys. When buying for the boys I tend to try and steer away from anything that is poorly built, or looks too plastic and cheap because you just know it won’t last, so when Indigo Jamm got in touch to see if Toby and Teddy wanted to play with their new ‘Jolly Jack’s Pirate Ship’ I could hardly say no.
When the box first turned up I honestly though it was going to be one of those ‘fifty loose pieces’ things that I was going to have to put together before the boys could even play with it but I was so, so wrong. The first thing you notice as soon as you get this out of the box is just how sturdy and well built it is. The body of the boat comes ready made and put together and with the whole thing being made from solid rubberwood and birch wood ply it makes for a long lasting toy. My boys are quite boisterous and heavy handed, and Toby is also quite clumsy, so it’s always good to know you’ve got toys that are going to withstand the hurricane that is my two children.
I love that it comes in minimal packaging; it’s super refreshing because it means we don’t have to battle with endless bubble wrap and pointless brown paper; our recycling bin is full as it is! Once it’s out of the box all you need to do is screw the mast to the deck and that is it! Everything else just slots into place and it’s ready to rock ‘n’ roll. Jolly Jack’s Pirate ship comes complete with 3 wooden pirate figures, a canon, a crocodile (hello Peter Pan!), a treasure chest which Toby thinks is great (Mummy, look. GOLD!) and is aimed at children 18 months+.
Jolly Jack’s Pirate Ship has proven that Jamm Toys encourage kids to use their imagination while having lots of fun. The design of this ship is particularly ‘retro’-esque and I love that they could be passed down through the generations. Depending on the condition of this after Toby and Teddy have finished playing with it, it’s definitely one of those toys that’ll have pride of place in the loft until the grandchildren come along – it’s that good!
Toby has been the one winning most of the battles to play with the Jolly Jack’s Pirate Ship and has really been putting it to the test. He’s been sailing it over laminate floor and carpet all without any issue and has been showing me all the little pieces that go with it, his favourite being the ‘snap snap’ (crocodile). There’s a rather cool pull down piece at the back which the boys love as it means they can fill their pirate ship with lots of loot.
With creative and imaginative play becoming less and less popular this Jolly Jack’s Pirate Ship really puts the appeal back into toys. With functioning parts both of my boys, at least, want to get hands on and down on the floor to play. With a retail price of £65 it is not cheap but it’s absolutely worth it. A long lasting toy designed right here in the UK that you could potentially be passing down is something worth investing in and the quality is amazing too.
If you fancy getting your hands on one of these Jolly Jack’s Pirate Ships then you can head to Jamm Toys and I have a 10% discount code you can use throughout the whole of March (one use per customer). The code you will need is:
I can’t explain how much I love the feel and quality of this toy. The only niggle I have is that some of the pieces can’t be fixed on and the boys constantly want to take them on and off, but that is all part of the playing right? Now.. who wants to see the crocodile walk the plank?! ANCHORS AWAY!
