I know, I know. I shouldn’t say it. But we really are getting close to Christmas. Oh how I wish I could shout it from the rooftops already because I am so ready for the festive season. And what better way to get in the mood than by reviewing some incredibly lovely food.
This time of year, for me anyway, is about food. I love hearty home cooked meals now the nights are drawing in. Hot and filling stews with crusty bread, yum! And for the in between I’m all about crackers, crisp bread, cheeses and sometimes wine in the evenings. Ok, so maybe it is just me, but this really is getting close to my favourite time of year.
Just recently I was sent a selection of crackers and crisp breads from Thomas J Fudge’s. Now, rather stupidly, this isn’t a name I had come across before so I was really eager to try their range. My only question is, why didn’t I know about these sooner?
These Thomas J Fudge’s snacks are ideal for getting out to have a cosy night in with nibbles, or they’re great for getting friends round on a Saturday night with some prosecco or wine! So which nibbles have we been digging into?
Thomas J Fudge’s Mini Wafers Range
The first in the Thomas J Fudge’s range are the ‘Punchy Jalapeno Mini Wafers’. They contain paprika, cayenne pepper and jalapenos all offering a little flavoursome kick. These are truly mini delights and while they might be little wafers, I can assure you they really pack a punch. They’re not overbearingly hot but they really are lovely. These are great with a cool dip.
‘Thai Chilli’ is the second flavour in this range and these are quite nice. They melt in your mouth but I think they could be a little bit crunchier although that’s just my preference. They won’t be for everyone but they go really nice with a sweet and sour dip as they’re not too hot or spicy. Yummy!
The last Thomas J Fudge’s mini wafers we tried were the ‘Melty Cheddar’ ones. These were by far my favourite. They are super crispy and crunchy and really, really cheesy which I love. I’m a huge fan of strong cheddar and these didn’t let me down. The kids loved them, Jamie loved them and I loved them and they were the first pack to be demolished out of them all. These go nice with any kind of dip really, I was quite happy with anything on them!
Thomas J Fudge’s Crackers Range
There are three boxes which we reviewed, but each had two flavours. The first were the ‘Almond & Cranberry and Hazelnut & Apple’ which are a fruit and nut selection. It was suggested to me that the cranberry ones ought to be tried with some brie and they were absolutely on to a winner with that. I really liked the hazelnut and apple ones with a nice punchy cheese. You could eat them both with cured meats – personally I’d give them a try with a nice garlicky salami.
The second box is a mix of sunflower and caraway crackers and a second flavour of pumpkin and sesame, so these ones are seedy! I love seeds, a huge fan of them on and in food so I think these topped it as my favourite. I ate these with a pate I got from the supermarket, I can’t remember which one but it was divine (I’ll update you if I remember!). They weren’t dry, they weren’t too soft and they made for the perfect dipper – you know you’ve got a good one when you can dip it into pate without it snapping!
The last box we tried were the Thomas J Fudge’s ‘Crispbreads’; spelt sourdough and a rye sourdough. These were really, really lovely and very versatile. These were easy to pile up with cured meats and cheese without being too overpowering. These are also really good for little mini ‘sandwiches’ in a packed lunch or for a picnic.
All the Thomas J Fudge’s products mentioned here all come in a handy, ready to go trays so no need to get them all out before hand. Starting from £2.25 they’re well worth the price, especially if you’re looking for a high end, luxury item or something to treat yourself to over Christmas. They’re available nationwide in places such as Waitrose, Boots, Ocado, Tesco and lots of delis and farm shops across the country.
Will you be trying these? Do you have a luxury item you love buying?
