As a mum, and a parenting blogger, I think it’s really important for me to dispel the stigma surrounding bladder weakness and also talk about how you can combat it. I’ve been working with TENA a lot recently on some of their campaigns and it’s not something I feel uncomfortable sharing. I thought I would feel embarrassed in sharing my experiences, but what’s more embarrassing is how uneducated some women are on this particular subject. Here’s a fun fact for you – bladder weakness is more common than hayfever in the UK. Yep, I was shocked too!
I recently attended a really lovely event with TENA in London at the Haymarket Hotel where we got to spend some of the day talking about TENA, what their goals are and speaking about the audiences they’re trying to reach. It’s known that one in three women will experience bladder weakness (whether light, or more serious) at some point during their lifetime. But I would say that less than one in three women actually talk about. This kind of thing should not be taboo!
There are lots of things than can cause bladder weakness and pregnancy is just one of them. Did you know that ageing is a cause too? Gravity takes hold after a few years you know! It’s very much a natural thing to happen whether you have children or not so all women should be aware. Luckily, TENA know what you’re going through and are constantly improving their products. Lights by TENA have new ‘feel fresh’ technology which locks in any moisture or odours and should keep you feeling fresh all day long; if you don’t they guarantee you’ll get your money back!
TENA’s presentation was so incredibly informative and it really showed bladder weakness in a new light – it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I think the croissants and champagne they provided certainly helped the message sink in. One of the things I’ve had on my phone for a while now is their ‘My PFF’ app which stands for ‘My Pelvic Floor Fitness’. It’s an app that reminds you when to do your pelvic floor exercises throughout the day. Go on, if you haven’t done them yet, do some while reading the rest of this blog post or while the app is downloading to your phone.
Today I’m just going to wear jeans and a jumper and team it with this gorgeous perfume I made at the weekend. I’ve called it “mum on the run”. It’s soft, warm, inviting and something I can wear every day. With base notes like sandalwood and vanilla, it’s hard not to love it ????

This was followed by a perfumery masterclass by Experimental Perfume Club where each of us were taken through the process of how perfumes are put together and we got to make our own. I called mine ‘Mum on the Run’ since that’s what I am most of the time and it has notes of empowerment, freshness and warmth. This was a really lovely way to end the session!
It was an incredibly informative session with lots of cake, champagne and flowers – look, how gorgeous are these? Oh and the underground swimming pool was nice to look at too; fortunately none of us fell in! Take a look on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #feelfresh and #lightsbyTENA to see more!
