I thought it was about time I did a quick follow up to my Changes in 2015 post from January, where I told you what I’d like to do differently this year. I’ve looked back at my old post and, although I feel like we’ve progressed, we’re still not quite there – though some positive changes have been made!
The first was to get organised. I’m afraid there’s been very little luck. I still don’t have things on walls but I do have orderly kitchen cupboards and we’re slowly filling our larder which is good. It’s taken us a while because we’ve got so much space and we’re not used to be able to having extras! I’m going to ease up on this one a bit though as there are much more exciting things to get organised, and everything will get done eventually, or so I tell myself.
Meal planning, oh where have you gone? I started out pretty well with this at the beginning of the year, and then we had the kitchen going on and we’ve just been really naughty and not really gotten back into the routine of planning! I’m going to sit down one night in the next week (she says) to get a 3-4 week meal plan in place. This is becoming pretty urgent because we also need to start batch cooking for when the baby is here. We have been doing bits here and there, but we need a good amount in the freezer really. – especially when it looks as though this baby will be here earlier than we’d expected.
We took the plunge and invested in some cloth nappies – yay go us! We decided to start using them with Toby in the hope that we’d become pros. By no means do we use them all day, every day (we’re having a few starting out issues) but it’s certainly a work in progress. I’m also really happy when we use them because it means less nappies in my rubbish and less nappies going to landfill. I’m hoping to cloth baby number two within the first few weeks after he’s born, but I won’t be rushing.
Cheeky Wipes are now a firm favourite in our house. We’ve cut right back on disposable wipes, to the point where we hardly use them anymore. This is something I was only thinking about doing this year, but after going to The Baby Show, and buying cloth nappies, we asked why not?
Blogging organisation. I think we’ll just skip to the part where I tell you I am not organised at all! As much as I try to get ahead, it never happens. So I’m currently still writing on an ad-hoc basis and trying to keep up – hurray! This will change.. I hope!
I am winning the toiletry war! I haven’t bought any new body washes or anything since the beginning of this year. I may have gotten some for Jamie, but certainly nothing for me and they’re slowly disappearing and freeing up lots more space, hurray!
Less time on technology in the evenings isn’t going so well. We still haven’t made a conscious effort to do it either. We both just tend to get caught up on something. I think we’re both just making the most of it while we can before the baby is here as I’m sure there’ll be plenty of evenings when it gets to 9.30pm and we’re both already asleep!
I’ll keep working at these and hope to have achieved something else by the next update!

We love cloth nappies but struggled with leaks at the start, also found that M had to grow a bit before they fit. Now we use them all day and saving so much waste.
We’ve had lots of issues with leaking too. I think it’s more us being used to the longevity a disposable offers. We’ve stopped using them for the moment though because Toby’s bowel movements were too terrible to think about handling. Admittedly they are improving so we’ll start again soon x
Thanks for the advice!! My mum’s looking after my nieces now, so I’ve been reading up on how I can help them out, and blogs like yours have been invaluable to me, cheers!
