Review | Multi-Mam New Mum Pack

National Breastfeeding Week 2015 is finally here and I’ll be working closely with Multi-Mam to promote it for the duration. We believe that breastfeeding should be normalised where possible. Breastfeeding has been attracting lots of media attention recently and so it’s the perfect opportunity to raise awareness.

When you get pregnant your body really gets put through it’s paces, and it doesn’t stop once you’ve given birth either. The trauma your body can go through can really be quite something, so anything to help ease the pain of those new Pammies, or the worst haemorrhoids in the world, is surely a good thing right? Multi-Mam have JUST the pack for us new mums.

It consists of Multi Mam nipple balm, Multi Mam compresses and Multi Gyn compresses and I’ve been reviewing them to see just how good this pack is. It comes beautifully wrapped, so offers itself as a great present to any mum to be if you don’t buy it for yourself!

Multi-Mam nipple balm
Based on a selection of vegetable oils, the balm is absorbed by the nipple really well. I found that, compared to other creams I have used in the past, this one is particularly smooth rather than sticky and fiddly to apply. It’s more like a moisturising cream with all the herbal healing properties added in.

One of the other great things about this balm is that it’s completely fragrance and taste free, which means it doesn’t need to be washed off prior to feeding the baby. Second to this, it means you’re offered protection while you’re breastfeeding, which helps reduces the cracks. I started applying the cream about a week before the baby was due to start ‘preparing’ my nipples for feeding if you like. I’m pleased I did as even the second time round breastfeeding I still started to get cracks early on despite Teddy latching on and feeding really well from the off.

The worst thing you can do is let your nipples dry out, so as long as this is applied after every feed and at other times as necessary (such as after getting out of the shower) then you shouldn’t suffer too much, if at all!

I don’t think that it’s any more expensive than what you’d pay for other similar products and would highly recommend this to any mum who’s thinking of breastfeeding.

Multi-Mam Compresses
These compresses are an absolute God send! They’re a unique approach to treating nipples that are already sore, cracked or split! Effectively they are strips of paper with gel on one side. You apply the gel side to your nipple and they offer instant cooling relief – particularly fabulous for day 2 or 3 when your milk starts coming in and you suffer with the engorgement and super hot boobs. Forget the cabbage leaves ladies, put these on!

The gel is safe and does a very similar job in protecting the nipple as the balm, which again means you don’t need to wash any residue away before feeding (BONUS). It’s a well researched formula and the ingredients have been chosen based on well researched properties.

The compresses are beautifully easy to apply, not fiddly at all and I also found that you can even double the use by cutting them in half as they’re very generous. They don’t dry out either. I tended to use them twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, though they were also applied if I felt I needed them during the day – a good 10 minutes with one of these on works absolute wonders.

Multi-Gyn Compresses
Not to be confused with the above compresses, these ones are designed to prevent discomforts in the more intimate areas! I could really have done with these for the episiotomy I had in my first pregnancy as I really struggled to find anything that would soothe as well as these would have.

They’re to use on anything from fissures, to irritations and haemorrhoids. The gel works actively on the affected area, so it needs to be applied for a good 10 minutes, and again at least twice a day for optimal healing. I found these stayed in place with a pair of well fitting underwear for the duration needed and offered instant relief.

I also used them on the edges of my c-section scar to soothe any itchiness I was experiencing, which stopped me scratching thankfully. Each box contains 12 individually packed compresses.

All of these products are perfect to pop into your hospital or changing bag, especially if you know you’re going to be in hospital a bit longer after the birth. They all come individually packed and are smaller than pocket size, so you don’t even have to take the whole box. My milk came in earlier this time so I was really grateful to have the Multi-Mam compresses to hand when things started

Of course not every woman will experience all or any of the above issues, but the pack is designed to cover an array of potential ailments that one might experience throughout pregnancy and post childbirth.
