What to get for Fathers’ Day – My gift guide

I thought men were hard to buy for until I met Jamie, when he only went and proved that they are REALLY hard to buy for. Women are so easy; a nice card, flowers, maybe a smelly set, or a spa voucher. But men, especially mine, don’t want or need anything. Now I know he’s not my dad, but he is the father of my children.

He doesn’t wear a dressing gown or slippers, hardly wears aftershave, doesn’t drink and doesn’t wear cufflinks. So what on this earth am I supposed to get him? If this sounds like your man, here are just some ideas I’ve come up with.

I’m going to put it out there and say an Apple Watch. Jamie’s not getting one (sorry buddy) but you might like to go the extra mile for your Dad. I’d probably go for the sport one out of all of them. Starting from £299.00 they’re not cheap but if your dad’s a gadget man, you can’t really go wrong with it.

You could always get him a nice new set of golf clubs, though this will probably end up costing you more than the watch. Probably just best to stick to one or two clubs – maybe a new putter, driver or wedge? Obviously, these are available from lots of various retailers and prices will vary massively too, provided that he’s even into golf. Probably best not to buy him any if he’s a gardener instead of a golfer.

As it’s coming up to summer, I think it’s always nice to spend a little bit on the wardrobe, so if Dad’s flip flops or shoes are looking a bit knackered and you want something a bit less ‘Dad’ to buy him, I’d opt for these classic canvas Toms! I quite like them in the Navy colour, and for only £29.99 think they’re a bit of a bargain. With every product purchase, TOMS do a ‘one for one’ policy where they will help a person in need too.

Now, I don’t know about this being just for dad’s, but I do know I’d like one. It’s one way to keep the kids entertained, all while you have a little lie down on the floor. Hell, even wear it to bed so that when the kids jump in with you in the morning, you can roll over and go back to sleep while getting a massage from the Duplo car they’ve been clinging onto for the last week! Here it is ladies and gentlemen.. a play mat tshirt and an absolute bargain at just over £14!

On to the standard personalised stuff. First up, there’s always the nice personalised book – either in photobook form, or something that you can add Dad’s name to. Usually a winner from little kids. Failing that, a personalised mug usually works wonders and you could always fill it with their favourite chocolates or sweets?

One thing Jamie will be getting is a personalised card. I usually get Toby to hold the pen while I attempt to write his name in the bottom but he always does his own little scribbles in there anyway, making it one of a kind! You can again get these at lots of different places at lots of different prices.

Another really cool gift that I’ve seen recently is a ‘Daddy’s Bed and Bathtime Kit’ from Mama Baby Bliss. Designed to get dads involved with their newborn at bath times where they can probably get the 5 minutes down time they’ll have actually been craving all day, as well as some quality bonding time.

There’s no need to wrap it as comes in a really cool bag, the contents of which are: ‘hugs natural baby oil’, ‘splash bath wash’, a lovely flannel and the obvious rubber duck. It also comes with a baby massage guide. For an all natural product bath time experience for dads and babies alike, this is surely worth the £23.00.

My last suggestion to you would be a really nice cup of tea! Who doesn’t love a decent cup of the good stuff? Relatively cheap, quick to make and totally satisfying, especially when paired with a packet of biscuit(s). British Tea Lovers have a really lovely loose leaf ceylon black tea in a super cute tin! It’s picked “For a Special Dad” and makes a nice, unique gift for any tea loving dad, and since (I’m sure) your Dad helps with all the DIY, someone needs to make him those brews when he’s busy.

This retails at £9.99 for what may seem like quite a small tin, but you don’t need to use many of the leaves to get a good colour brew. It comes in one of those tins that you find your grandparents have kept stuff in for years, and I can’t wait to find a use for it.. I might put my stock cubes in there or something ‘mumsy’.

It’s a really nice way to start the day, a light tasting breakfast tea if you will. If you’d like one of these tins for your Dad, then head on over to their website where you can get 10% off by entering the code DAD175. However, if you sign up to their newsletter you can get a further 10% off, and these codes can be used together!

They’ve got some really interesting flavoured tea coming out soon, so it’s definitely worth keeping up with these guys. You can also find British Tea Lovers on Facebook and Twitter.

So anyway, let’s get past all this abundance of gift giving of things that dads probably don’t want to be fair. There are some things that dads really do want though..

  • No nagging from the other half (you will probably only get it in one ear, rather than both)
  • A lie in (there’ll be no such luck this year for Jamie this year. We’ve got a toddler and a newborn!)
  • Breakfast in bed (the only man getting that in our house this year will be the baby)
  • Sole control of the television (sure thing, but Jamie will have to contend with Toby wanting to watch Paw Patrol)
  • That really nice cup of tea I just mentioned? That!
  • 5 minutes peace (no arguing, bitching, nagging (see above) screaming, crying or snoring)

What are you getting your dad/partner for Fathers’ Day? Have I missed anything vital?
