When I say ‘wicked’ I mean ‘cool’. I feel so down with the kids saying ‘wicked’, I’m fondly reminded of my youth and how my group of friends all used to say it. Everyone wants that really cool family member right? A ‘Wicked Uncle’ perhaps? Then I know just the people..
More than just a toy company, Wicked Uncle offer a present service for every occasion throughout the year. Easter and Halloween included! They are an online shop that’s aimed at everybody who has contact with children, rather than just parents of the kids which is how they came up with their name.
Wicked Uncle isn’t just about buying presents for your own children, it’s all about sending presents to other people’s children too. If you have children then you’ll know it’s difficult enough to buy them presents (what are they into these days?) and you’re their parent! So when it comes to buying for your godchild, niece, nephew or the next door neighbour’s little boy then you probably have no idea what they’re into either! Cue Wicked Uncle.
Their aim is to show you what’s popular for that gender and age group. Everything is sorted this way because those are the things you’ll tend to know about the child you’re buying for. Within those categories it’ll be ranked by popularity, showing you what other people are buying! The whole idea is well thought through and while, of course, toys are not age or gender specific in their entirety, it’s handy that they can be sorted this way. There will shortly be an ‘all’ button should you wish to view all the toys they have on offer without them being specifically sorted.
Wicked Uncle aim to have a vast selection of interesting and unusual presents, rather than the standard stuff you can buy in any old shop on the high street, although they do sell conventional items too. Did you know they’ll even gift wrap the present and send a handwritten card straight to the recipient? They’ll also include a pre-filled ‘Thank you’ postcard with your own name and address on it for the child to send back to you. They’ll even remember the date and create a calendar which will send you a reminder the following year, so once you’ve bought from them, you’ll never forget another occasion!
Toby, who’s 22 months, and I were sent the following toys and found that the delivery was really quick. It came within a couple of days and was well cushioned, thus protecting the packaging of the actual toy.
Megasketcher Classique – £17.50
A classic and cool gift for kids of all ages really. It comes with a pen and four different shaped stamps. This will bring out the artistic side of any adult child. It’ll help with Toby’s fine motor skills, especially when it comes to holding the pen. It’ll save my walls from being covered in crayon, or worse, biro! It doesn’t require any batteries (woohoo, saves me £4) and is portable, which is great because we can take it in the car to occupy him for a whole 30 seconds before he wants to get out and run around!
Extreme Waboba Ball – £5.50
This little ball skips and bounces on water and I can’t wait to take this on holiday with us next week. Toby adores anything that involves playing with balls. Smaller than I anticipated but still great fun! I’m sure uncle Joshy is going to love this too.
Melissa and Doug Farm Sound Blocks – £12.95
Match the two halves of the blocks to make up one of six farmyard animals, and then it’ll make the sound. A small, educational and (again) portable toy. Great for teaching sounds and how to match up. This is another one we’ll be taking on holiday with us! I chose this one because I’d seen a friend using it with her children and thought it was great!
The website is super easy to navigate and has a fantastic selection of toys, I truly can’t fault the choice. However, while browsing the presents, I’d highly recommend looking at an age group or two older than the child you’re buying for, as well as the toys popular for their actual age. I found a few toys that I could have ordered for Toby to play with that were sorted into slightly older categories that he would’ve enjoyed and played with too.
The prices are reasonable, they’re not overpriced at all which can sometimes happen when you buy online, and there’s something for every price range. Delivery charges are well within the normal range too.
I will definitely be using this website again. Not only could I do with the calendar as my memory is getting worse with having children, but I found lots of toys I would’ve never have thought of buying for Toby. I’m nothing short of impressed with Wicked Uncle and their services.
