A few end of week mum and baby necessities

I’ve got a few mum and baby necessities that I’d like to share with you that I’ve really appreciated receiving, or trying out or just generally using since Teddy has been here.

The first is a gorgeous baby clothes bouquet from Little Bump Shop. Handmade in the UK by the lovely Kat, this is probably the most useful bunch of ‘flowers’ I’ve ever received because it’s made up of some baby bits including muslins, socks, bodysuits, bibs and hats. Kat offers a range of products on the website from a single rose to a full bouquet. It’s so much fun unwrapping all the individual items, but it’s also sad to see the bouquet be dismantled – I had it on display for a while and lots of visitors couldn’t believe they weren’t real flowers.

I’d be more than happy to buy one of these for anyone who was a new mum, or mum to be. They are such high quality and are made with such love and care you can’t help feeling loved, just as if you were receiving a proper bunch of flowers. Please pop by and have a look at the range!

I was recently sent some Sudocrem Care and Protect to try out. It’s to be applied at every nappy change to aid in the prevention of nappy rash, although if your baby is already suffering, this should help clear it up too. We haven’t tried it on Teddy yet as he doesn’t ever seem to have a nappy on long enough. However, Toby tends to wear a nappy for much longer, which can sometimes irritate his bottom. Recently, he has had the odd bout of nappy rash, but nothing too severe and this Sudocrem has cleared it up really quickly.

I’m impressed that it finally comes in a tube as I find that the tubs of Sudocrem tend to get caught under fingernails, no matter how short, and I’m always conscious of putting bacteria back in there if you have to get a bit more out. The cream, whilst runnier than your standard Sudocrem, does go a long way. You really don’t need to use much as it spreads so well. It’s not highly fragranced which I love, as I’m always concerned that with Toby’s sensitive skin, something such as a fragrance additive could irritate him. While, at around £5.99, it is pricer than your original pot, but you do have the convenience of the tube and it isn’t such a bulky item either. One of the go-to products in my changing bag.

Now, I’ve used lots of breast pads recently, from lots of different brands and trying to find some that are comfortable, absorbent and that are the right ‘size’ is near on impossible! Lansinoh tick all these boxes although I find that the two sticky strips on the back don’t tend to stick that well. I find that they can come quite loose and move around a lot, so unless your bra is quite snug you may have the odd leak where it’s not quite in place. I also found them quite difficult to open. I found the fibres were quite well stuck together and I had to get a fingernail in to open them, or I ended up having to open them up like you would a packet of crisps. However, I can’t fault them on their absorbency, I seldom had to change them during the day and I never felt wet.

I’ve also been using their breast milk storage bags for the first time. I haven’t managed to express that much but what I have managed to get off I’ve frozen. They’re really simple to use with measurements on the bag, so you know how much you’ve stored, and space to write a date so you can store them effectively.

Last but not least, I’ve GOT to tell you about a stunning product by Kokoso Baby. Their all natural and all organic pure coconut oil to be exact. While it’s specifically designed for baby’s skin, let me tell you.. my feet are in silky smooth heaven. I gave myself a quick pedicure the other night and added some of this to the water in my foot spa and my toes really thanked me for it. I even massaged it into my feet and cuticles after I’d done all of my scrubbing and buffing.

While it’s hard stored at room temperature it melts between your fingers once you’ve scooped it out, and the uses are endless. I’ve used it for everything from a make up remover (especially waterproof mascara), as part of my pedicure routine and other dry skin areas. This tub is a proper family affair; it’s great for both you, hubby and the kids. Knowing that it’s completely nasty ingredient free makes me feel so much better about using it, especially as I suffer with rather sensitive skin and have passed it on to Toby! You don’t need to use a lot as it spreads so well and it’s easily absorbed by the skin. It doesn’t leave you feeling oily and there’s no lasting residue to wipe away either.

Prior to using this I’d heard so many good things about coconut oil and it’s ability to help with a variety of things and this proves everything right. If I’m mad lucky enough to have any more children I’ll be using this instead of my bio-oil and I’ve already recommended this to pregnant friends, and family members. This little tub is amazing and you can now find it on the shelves in Boots!
