Craft | Three Things To Make With The Kids For Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, it’s always nice to give some little tokens to the one you love, but what about the children? I’m happy to admit that I am no Pinterest or craft loving mummy, but what I am is “willing to have a go”. As a Bostik blogger this year (yay!) I’m going to start doing, and making, more with both the boys.

Our box this month was filled with lots of lovely bits and pieces which initially made me panic because I had no idea what I was going to do with it all. I decided that I’d break it down into some nice easy crafts that I could do and that Toby could join in with. So here are three things you can make with the kids this Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day Goodie Bag

This is such a simple little craft that anyone can do! In fact, Toby did most of this himself.

What You’ll Need:
  • A paper bag (ours is pink and pretty roomy)
  • Two different types of ribbon
  • Heart stickers
  • Bostik ‘White Glu’
  • One cut out heart
What We Did:
  • If your heart doesn’t have a hole in it, you can make one with a pair of scissors, or by poking a pen through. Once you have a hole, take one of the ribbons, thread this through and pull to make a bow (super simple!).

  • Using your ‘Bostik White Glu’ stick your heart to the front of the paper bag. I glued ours on so it was more or less central.

  • Let your child go crazy with the heart stickers. Toby is a huge sticker fan and he didn’t have to be asked twice to go sticker crazy!

  • Once he’d done this, I helped him tie the second ribbon around the handles just to finish it off.
  • You can fill this with whatever Valentine’s goodies you can think of; Love Heart sweets, home-made cakes, a little bottle of perfume perhaps.

  • This is incredibly simple and if you’re just looking at getting started with crafts, the materials are minimal, it’s practically mess free and Toby loved joining in with this and he was so proud of it as you can see.

Valentine’s Day Card

This probably seems like a simpler idea than the bag, but there is a fiddly bit – sorry!

What You’ll Need:
  • Two cut out hearts, each a different colour
  • A pipe cleaner (ours is glittery – ooh!)
  • Bostik ‘Glu Dots’
What We Did:

Super duper easy is this one. Use three Bostik ‘Glu Dots’ per heart to place these on the front of your card. I got Toby to stick these down, give them a rub and then peel off the plastic; I think that was his favourite part. While he was doing that I manipulated the pipe cleaner so that it spelled out the word ‘LOVE’. Believe me when I say this took a fair few attempts to get it absolutely right.

The next part is totally up to you. I used some of the Bostik ‘White Glu’ and the Bostik ‘Glu Dots’ to fix it into place on the card. Ta-dah! There you have it. Obviously you can make this as simple or as intricate as you like, but this worked so well for us. It isn’t easy for me to hold Toby’s attention and so things that are quick and simple work better for us right now. However, it’s so lovely to sit down one to one with him and just enjoy doing something together.

Valentine’s Day Letter Box

I thought I’d really try to push the boat out here and make something a little more intricate. It’s not what I had imagined but we did it, and it works. Come see..

What You’ll Need:
  • Some coloured card (two big bits and two smaller pieces)
  • Bostik ‘White Glu’
  • Love heart stickers (or any other stickers you fancy putting on!)
  • A piece of felt
  • A small piece of ribbon
What We Did:
  • Lay an A4 piece of card face up on the table. Let the kids go crazy with the stickers!

  • Turn the card face down and fold about 1-2cms over at the top, and at the bottom.

  • Use your Bostik ‘White Glu’ to cover these folded over areas with glue. Grab another piece of card, slightly bigger than A4 and place the glued areas flat onto the card to create what looks like a tunnel.

  • Once this has dried and has settled into place, cut your felt to fit the bottom of the tunnel – a bit like a carpet. Glue down.

  • Use the two smaller pieces of card to cut out semi-circles that fit the ends of your tunnel like structure but leave them a bit taller than the structure itself.
  • Fold the semi circle at the bottom to create a flap to put glue on. Glue one end totally shut, and leave the other end open.
  • Pop a hole through the top of the semi circle once it’s fixed in place, and another hole in the top of the postbox. Hopefully it resembles more a postbox now, rather than just a tunnel

  • Thread the ribbon through both holes and tie a knot. Remember to leave the ribbon long enough for the semi circle to be pulled shut and then pulled open again.

  • Fill the letterbox up with lots of treats – I’d definitely suggest some nice cakes!

What did you think of my first time crafting with the kids? Did you find this easy, or were they a little too tricky?
