Review | PregnancyPillows Nursing Pillow

After recently using an ‘Original U-Shaped PregnancyPillow‘ during my pregnancy, I’ve now moved on to an ‘Original Nursing Pillow‘ since I’d already decided I was going to be breastfeeding.

Now, I didn’t have one of these when I breastfed Toby and ended up using one of those standard tiddly cushions that comes with your sofa to rest him on, or one off the bed. However, this time round I got asked if I’d like to review one of these once Ted was here, and I’m so glad I agreed. Yes, you could make do with ordinary pillows, but it’s so much easier, and healthier for you and the baby, to have a proper structure so that you’ve both got some support when feeding. It also means that you’re only adjusting one pillow, which you can do single handedly, rather than trying to plump up 3 different ones while they’re underneath you.

The nursing pillow itself is a lovely, tight C-shape which really hugs you round the torso. It’s not solid but is made of Sensifil, which is firm but forgiving to allow the support you need. It comes with a babysoft cover, available in 7 different colours, which really is what it says on the tin, super soft and really plush. The Sensifil is also allergy and asthma friendly, a little extra bonus if you’re prone to those!

When used as a nursing pillow during breastfeeding it essentially allows you to do so hands free, leaving your arms available for any attention seeking toddlers who’ll do anything to catch your eye! And if dad helps out with feeding baby from a bottle, it’ll really help save that dead arm feeling when their head starts getting really heavy!

Not only can it be used as a nursing pillow, we’ve found a variety of other uses too! Apart from the fact it says you can use it to help relieve back pressure during pregnancy (though I’d go for the actual PregnancyPillow itself for that) we’ve been using it as an aid to rest Teddy in, just to let him sit up a bit and see the world around him. It’s so snug that he doesn’t wriggle out of it either! Jamie and I often use it when we’re laying on the floor as a pillow for our heads. I even took it on a long car journey so I could tuck it between my head and shoulder and have a little snooze. In the future we’ll be using this for tummy time and to help Ted sit up.

I really wish I’d had one of these when I had Toby as it would’ve saved me so much hassle with sorting out pillows! They’ve also recently been shortlisted for three Baby & Toddler Gear Awards by Mumii – check it out here!
