It’s absolute madness to me that in just a few weeks time I will become a real life ‘school run mum’. My eldest, my baby, is starting school in September and I just can’t come to terms with it yet. We recently had his ‘welcome meeting’ where we had a little walk around the school for the second time, met the dinner lady, his new teacher and all the other parents whose children would also be starting, though for some this won’t have been the first time. Not only that but Teddy is starting nursery in September so I feel like I’m losing an arm and a leg at the same time!
We came away overwhelmed and with a lot of information but one thing that stuck in my head, genuinely, was the fact that everything needed to be labelled. Of course, this is something I had been thinking about anyway and had already started doing my research but it was more the fact that the headteacher really emphasised that everything must be labelled. “Even pants and socks” she said. And it’s stuck with me. How on Earth are you meant to label pants and socks?
Petit Fernand Customised Labels
Nobody has time to label pants and socks and… does it really matter anyway? They’re cheap and easy to replace and they’re unlikely to cost a fortune, unlike some of the other things he’ll be wearing to school. Anyway, whilst conducting this very important research I came across a lovely brand called ‘Petit Fernand‘. They were one among a few others that came up during the search and they aren’t a brand that I’d heard of before.
To ensure all ‘labelling’ avenues had been explored I clicked on it and loved what I saw. The labels ranged in shape, size and purpose. They have everything from labels for your shoes right up to lunch boxes and water bottles and I knew that nothing that Toby took to school with him, or that Teddy took to nursery with him, would go unlabelled.
After ordering them the first thing I noticed were how they came in a protected book. We’ve had a few labels from other places before and they’ve been packed loosely so they were a nightmare to find. I love that these can effectively be filed and they’re easily sectioned so you can flick to the one you think would be most suitable.
I chose to go with the personalised label value packs as I thought this gave the best range of labels for the things that needed naming. The personalisation process is really easy; you can choose to have your child’s first name, surname or both as well as a small little picture on the label to make them doubly identifiable. There is a huge range of colours, patterns, fonts and icons to choose from. I love that they have a picture because if they can’t recognise their name just yet, they can at least recognise a small icon – and it’s handy for the school/nursery staff if there are two children with the same name!
Each label comes in a different size, no two are the same and they do stick really well so even go through the dishwasher, which is really handy when you’re a mum. They apply really easily and the shoe ones are brilliant! Currently, I can’t fault them and I genuinely can’t wait to label the boys’ nursery and school clothes because I know how easy it’s going to be! Roll on September!
