Pyjamas are a staple in my wardrobe, especially at the weekend when there’s usually no pressure to get dressed properly. The only problem is, with an ever expanding waistline, I seem to be growing out of all my sets pretty quickly! However, I have found one of the loveliest maternity nightwear ranges with The Essential One.
I think it goes without saying that being comfortable during pregnancy is an absolute must, and I find no better time to get comfortable than when the boys are in bed and I can slip into my pyjamas. That, my friends, is my idea of a rock ‘n’ roll kind of night.

A small, family owned business, you can tell are passionate about what they do and that every thought is with the mother and the baby. They’re all about providing products that new mums genuinely need – especially when we hardly know what we need ourselves sometimes!
I’m hoping to breastfeed again with this third little one so after looking through The Essential One maternity nightwear I came across a short sleeved star set that was both perfect for a growing bump, and most likely growing boobs after the birth! As an aside, I was also in love with the print as soon as I set eyes on it – grey and stars are perfect together.
The Essential One Maternity Nightwear
This set turned up beautifully packaged in the most lovely, printed tissue paper! Lovingly wrapped and sent, you could absolutely choose this to be sent as a gift or order and place in a gift basket for a baby shower.
Once I got the set out I did think ‘oh my goodness, this looks huge’ but it fitted perfectly with plenty of room for a growing bump! The fabric is super soft and stretchy, really light and doesn’t cling too much which is an absolute must when you’re pregnant – you don’t want to feel too restricted or feel like what you’re wearing is pulling everywhere. These pyjamas from The Essential One are the absolute epitome of comfort and style.

The vest top is pretty longline and has three buttons down the front to allow access to the boob for breastfeeding which means you can guarantee I’ll be packing these in my hospital take to wear once the baby is here. I had a nightie last time but I found I didn’t really like it and it wasn’t specifically a maternity one either so I had to lift it all the way up to my neck to feed. These pyjamas are also a great choice for Summer because the vest is sleeveless!
Depending on the size of your bump the trousers will sit at the top of, or on, your bump. I’ve found that as my bump grows, the waistband of the trousers sits further down my tummy but I can’t convey to you just how comfy they are. I wouldn’t say they’re figure hugging material, but they do have a cuff round the bottom which gives them a more fitted feel and look.
I can’t wait to see how these work when I’m breastfeeding! The buttons look like they come down far enough to accommodate a small milk monster. If you struggle that way this is easy to pull up and out of the way! I’ll update when the time comes!
The Essential One Maternity/Nursing Bra
I also chose to see what one of their maternity/nursing, clip strap sleep bras would be like. I didn’t buy it specifically to sleep in but more just to have a bit of extra comfort if I needed it when my boobs are feeling particularly sensitive or full and, without a doubt, I’ll be needing this in my hospital bag too!
I ordered the same size (8-10) as I did the pyjamas and even though the fabric is super comfortable, I did find it a little tight around the band underneath. This could be that I’ve put on a little extra weight but I would personally size up just to make sure. The actual space for boobs (plus breast pads) is great though.
The clip strap opening is super easy to use and you can do it one handed, and there’s plenty of space for baby to feed from without any material in their face. The straps themselves are fully adjustable, too. This is much softer than some of the maternity crops I’ve tried in the past which makes it one of the most comfortable I’ve worn. It’s perfect for sleeping in, wearing around the house with a newborn or to use while out and about.
