If it’s one thing I love, it’s shoes! I’m not fussy, any shoe will do; high heels, flats, comfortable, ones that tear into your feet – as long as they’re pretty! That was me as a late teens/young twenty year old. Now as a *sob* mid twenty something mum with two kids, pretty shoes aren’t top of my ‘must buy’ list. Sadly.
So when Hotter Shoes invited me to their event in Norwich I jumped at the chance! The store has recently been refurbished and they’d had a grand reopening with even the Mayor in attendance. Now, as much as I jumped at the chance I was really, really dubious about liking any of their shoes. Hotter is not somewhere I’d ever been in before because you know.. grannies! That’s literally all I could think of; that I wouldn’t like any of their shoes or that they were made for someone more my Nan’s age bracket. Oh. How. Wrong!
We started off by being welcomed with fizz and orange juice – I was driving so went with the orange juice and I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere ‘hotter’ on this planet. They had the air con going, fans on and it was so, so humid but it was so good to actually have a look around at what they had on offer.
After having a little look around, and after a few pairs of shoes had caught my eyes, we were encouraged to sit down (we had nibbles at this point too) and listen to a presentation about how Hotter Shoes came to be. I actually really enjoyed listening about how the company started, what they’ve grown into and I think I can now say I’m a bit of a Hotter Shoes geek. They started off making slippers and now they want to make shoes that are as comfortable as slippers and I know all about their top secret technology *taps nose*.
After speaking to some of the staff, the area manager and those who had invited me it was time to get trying on some shoes and I found that I genuinely couldn’t decide between four pairs. Oh yes, I found four pairs in there – something I didn’t think was possible! The Belle boots, a pair of brogues called Village Shoes and some gorgeous Vanity and Hampton ankle boots.
In the end I opted, after lots and lots of debating and trying on, for the Belle boots. I eventually chose black over brown because I always end up going for brown boots and decided to go for something I wouldn’t normally go for. I was worried as most boots I have are way too big for my calves but these have an adjustable buckle and stretchy sides and they actually fit really snugly against my legs for once – and they do wide fit too!
After a lot more chatting to the area manage, mostly about my upcoming wedding I did a short video about what shoes I’d chosen and why – I’m sure that’ll crop up somewhere! I can only apologise for my sweaty look as it was the hottest place in Norfolk that night I’m sure of it!
