Fashion | Stepping Into Summer With Kurt Geiger

I remember when I was 18, working and nearly all of my money went on shoes. I didn’t have a handbag, accessory or clothes obsession, it was always shoes. But, since I’ve been a mum, I’ve opted for sensible over sexy, dreary over daring and function over fashion. I must live in the same few pairs of shoes now, rather than wearing a few new pairs every month. Occasions are few and far in between so it’s not like I could even justify spending a good whack on a beautiful pair of heels. Sad times.

That is, until Kurt Geiger got in touch asking if I’d like to choose a pair of shoes from their range, as well as a pair each for the boys. Of course the boys have to be just as stylish as their mama, right? It must’ve taken me a good week to choose a pair. Did I really treat myself and go for a gorgeous pair of heels that would sit on the shelf with the rest? Or should I opt for a pair that’s both beautiful and practical? The 18 year old in me wanted the heels but the sensible mum in me went for the practical. But in no way did I compromise on style.

We don’t have a Kurt Geiger store where I live so whenever I’ve been shopping in the bigger cities and there’s a store, I am always drawn in and suckered into trying on some of the most beautiful shoes. I’ve never been lucky to own a pair of Kurt Geiger shoes, but now I do, and it feels amazing! It’s such a treat for me as I rarely get anything for myself these days.

Anyway, after lots of deliberation and a rather lengthy elimination process I opted for this rather gorgeous pair of boots.

I am in love with these tan, flat ankle boots which are from the Carvela range and I’m so far unable to fault them. I love the colour, I love that they’re perfect for all seasons and I just love the quality and how comfy they are. The best thing about them is their versatility because they go with such a huge range of outfits and knowing that makes it easy to pick something out of the wardrobe in the morning; especially when mine is so limited at the moment – I am well overdue a summer shopping spree!

I was really surprised when they said I could look at children’s shoes for the boys. Really? Who knew Kurt Geiger stocked branded kid’s shoes? Not me! Which only brought two more dilemmas of which shoes to get the boys! Eek! Thinking that I’d like to treat them both, I opted to get Toby some white Converse since he doesn’t really have any trainers and certainly nothing white – he’s 2 and bound to be filthy in minutes, but I bit the bullet as I have a pair and love them! I also thought they’d be great with lots of his summer outfits, not forgetting how comfortable they are. Toby seems pretty happy with them!

Ted isn’t a big shoe fan and would much rather be like Mowgli and go bare foot most of the time! I wanted a pair of shoes that would be practical for summer, a pair we could potentially manipulate his toes into (he still does that toe curling thing!) and of course they had to be stylish. Now, both my boys really suit red, loads of people have always commented when they’re wearing red telling us how it’s “so their colour” and so I’ve always gone with it. These utterly, utterly gorgeous pair of Dolce and Gabbana jelly shoes were the perfect pair for Ted. How cute are they? And how cute does he look in them?

The jelly is super soft and I can fit my fingers in to uncurl his toes if he doesn’t flatten them when I’m trying to put them on. They have a really soft inner sole and he’s not had any marks from rubbing even when he’s been wearing them for ages. They are just the perfect little shoe!
