Home | Sundays Are For…

There are a lot of ways my Sundays could be spent, but usually it is contending with the boys. Oh what I would do for a few Sundays off, or even a weekend. You know, like a regular job, Monday to Friday with the weekends off – a mother can dream! It’s fair to say I’d probably be ok with this for a few weeks until I wanted those little snuggle bundles back with me. So what are Sundays for? Well they’re for;

Staying At Home

Sundays are like my ‘go to’ pyjama day, especially if I don’t need to be anywhere. At most, if we’re staying at home, I will get into some loungewear, but I am not getting dressed. Nope. No way. I spend all week getting dressed, doing my hair and make up because we’ve usually got to be somewhere every day of the week but Sundays we usually don’t have plans.

Self Care

Take a bath, let your skin breathe, don’t brush your hair, shave your legs, put a load of washing on if you really want to. Whatever it is you do, do something for you. Put a face mask on and scare any potential visitors who dare to interrupt you. Read a book, watch some crap telly, chat to the girls on Whatsapp, just make sure you give yourself a bit of TLC. You need it too!

Indulging

Sundays are for indulging. Crisps, chocolate, biscuits, whatever takes your fancy. Obviously don’t go mad because you’ll probably regret filling up ahead of your roast dinner (see below). It kind of sounds like a weekly Christmas event, but one that I’d be happy to adopt.

Preparing

As the saying goes, apparently a Sunday well spent brings a week of content. I’d love to think that on a Sunday evening I know exactly what’s going on for the rest of the week. I like to know what I’m doing with the boys, what I’m doing with work and if we’re going to be going out or staying in so I can, more or less, prepare myself for that! The saying is a little bit backward for me. I think a week well spent brings a Sunday’s content.

Relaxing

Obviously. It’s the ‘day of rest’. What Sundays aren’t for is housework, stress, getting dressed and just anything that generally requires lots of movement. Unless of course this is your only day of the week to get things done, or you relish in being busy – sometimes that can be just as relaxing as whipping a book out or concentrating on a sudoku puzzle. You know what? Whatever makes you relax, you should do that.

Roast Dinners

Without a doubt, a Sunday staple in most homes across the country. Sundays aren’t really Sundays if they don’t include a roast dinner. Now, I know I’ve said about staying in your pyjamas, so that’s fine, cook one in your PJs, or if you find that actually you’re already dressed why not head out for a carvery? Last weekend Jamie and I met up with some friends and took the boys for a roast dinner at the coast, we’re lucky to live quite close to it, and it was so lovely. Apart from trying to keep the boys entertained before the food came, it was really lovely. And a walk along the coastline after a good roast dinner, what more could you want?

An Early Night

I wish I could take this advice more often. Lots of my work is done in the evening so I rarely get an early night. So in my case I’d be taking my laptop to bed for some bed time writing. But that’s ok if you’ve got a comfy enough bed right? I’ve been looking at new mattresses recently, ours is kind of stained from me breastfeeding the two boys. It’s still comfy despite it being nearly four years old, which isn’t that old in the life of a mattress really. But having a super comfy one helps, along with a big thick quilt this time of year and super snuggly covers. I’ve never been one for lots of pillows on the bed either, but a nice bed set makes all the difference.

If you’re not working, why not head to bed earlier than usual, settle down with a book or watch a bit of TV until you’re sleep.

How do you spend your Sundays? What will you be doing this Sunday? Go on. Make the most of it.
