Making Babies Happy With #SoundOfHappy

As a parent there are moments we live for. The ones that make everything right in the world again. From your baby being put into your arms for the first time, to their first smile and more. These are the moments I will treasure forever with my two boys.

But there is one moment that will always have a special place in my heart, and that is hearing them both giggle for the first time. Both times I have captured on video and looking back brings a tear to my eye. The way they kind of inhale loudly while trying to giggle are some of my favourite times.

We all know that babies laugh a lot, especially when they get going. And it’s when they’re giggling, cooing or blowing raspberries that we can tell they’re at their happiest. But what sounds make them happy in the first place? C&G baby club have been working hard to get babies happy this summer, and they’ve been doing lots of research which shows that babies like to laugh at a range of different noises. These could be anything from being with their siblings (unless you’re my two children, in which case there is lots of screaming!), the sound of you laughing, a familiar voice and even the ice cream van coming down the road. Quite honestly, I’d be smiling too if I had a white chocolate ice cream at my front door.

I know that my boys both love the Friends theme tune as this is all I watched when I was pregnant with both of them. One of our friends actually commented on how he knew what we’d have on the television when we came round because there was never anything else on. Both Toby and Teddy react with excitement whenever they hear it, even now. As they’ve gotten older, there are other noises and sounds that excite them; the Paw Patrol theme tune, the washing machine when it sings to us to tell us its finished, the sound of the key turning in the back door and the door being slid open.

Launched this month, C&G baby club have developed and created the world’s first song made from sounds and melodies that will make babies giggle, and will make them happy! This is made all the more amazing as they’ve been working with a team of mums and babies alongside psychologists and a high profile singer/songwriter – how exciting! I love when brands involve real mums, with real kids to get real results.

As voted by UK parents the top sounds which make babies happy, that also feature on the track, are ‘Boo’ (66%), ‘sneezing’ (51%) and ‘raspberry’ (57%). The song is designed to encourage happiness and laughter for babies aged 6-24 months and was tested on 56 infants and researchers had remarkable results during the two minute tune.

The infants’ reactions were monitored which included movements, facial expressions, heart rate and vocalisations to see which parts of the song created a positive mood and this was reflected in the refinement of the song. It took a whole three months of testing to create a final track which was most favoured.

The song contains lyrics telling parents’ love for their children wherever they are, which is a fact all parents can relate to and the tempo was chosen as it’s the most popular and easy to dance to – and babies love to dance, right?

This song is available to download and stream for babies to enjoy, and you can see it in all its glory here; www.soundofhappy.com and it’s even available on Spotify.
