Making Our House A Home | Flogas Gas Safety

Since becoming a parent, anything safety related around the home has become pretty important, especially with those wandering minds and little fingers. Whether it be locks on the cupboards, plug socket protectors or gas safety, it’s all paramount.

Gas is especially important for us, it’s something we use every day as we have a gas hob. Yes we open the cupboards and use certain plug sockets every day, but they are things that can be controlled, whereas gas can be one of those silent killers if not monitored correctly – especially if you have a leak. Luckily, it’s not something we hear about very often in the media now thanks to some simple checks you can do at home.

We do the usual things when it comes to gas safety; getting the boiler serviced, having a carbon monoxide detector installed, making sure all the gas connections are done by a certified and CORGI registered company. If we ever go away then I turn the gas supply off at the wall. If Toby and I are baking and he’s near the hob, I always make sure that he hasn’t been ‘playing’ with any of the knobs/switches, and really I try to keep him away from it full stop. It’s not something I want him to think he can play with.

Flogas provide gas to homes all over the United Kingdom, and have lots of gas safety tips on their website. I can’t stress the importance of being safe with gas because it’s not just you who can, or will, be affected. They’re also creating an e-book all about gas safety in the home which will be available on their website and various social media platforms. If I’m lucky enough, they may even include a quote from me and I will let you know when this is available to download!

I think it’s just a case of being gas safety ‘aware’ and making sure that you just do all the little things you can do at home to prevent any gas accidents.
