Review | Paula Kirkwood Leather Bag

I’ve only recently heard of Paula Kirkwood but I wish I’d heard of her sooner. As someone who has lusted over Mulberry handbags for quite some time (I don’t have one, mind) it was lovely to come across Paula and her range of leather goods that included handbags that cost a fraction of what a Mulberry does yet there is no question about their quality.

Paula has worked in fashion and textiles for over 20 years and this shows in the craftsmanship of the goods she creates. Made here in the UK in her workshop in Brighton, not only are they superbly stylish but they’re incredibly functional too.

Whether you’re buying a tote bag, a cross body bag or a purse, there’s something for everyone. This zip-top black cross body bag is the perfect handbag to pick up on the way out of the door when I’m heading out alone. Usually I try to condense the bags, especially when we’re taking the children out, but this is a grab a go bag that I can fit my purse, phone and keys into with a bit of room to spare.

When the saddle bag and purse arrived the first thing you got was that smell of real leather – the smell that tells you this is the genuine article. It was heavenly. The bag is smooth to the touch but carries textured leather markings which all adds to how unique this piece is and you’ll know it’s a proper Paula Kirkwood piece by the signature embossed logo at the bottom of the bag.

It’s definitely going to be one of my staple pieces; it’s easy to dress up or down, small enough to take out for a nice dinner but big enough to keep all the essentials in. It has an adjustable strap so if you don’t want to use it as a cross body bag you could always shorten it and have it as a shoulder bag. It’s a timeless piece and because it’s black it’ll hardly, if ever, go out of fashion.
