After making cake pops, Toby decided that this week we’d try biscuits. It feels a little bit like the Great British Bake Off challenge by doing different bakes every week but it’s fun nonetheless. Vivid’s Real Baking Range Cookie Kit supplied us with all the kit we’d need for making our biscuits, minus all the ingredients.
We both got in the kitchen while Ted was asleep so we could do this without being distracted. We got the box open and got out all the kit which included a rolling pin, a silicone baking tray, cookie cutters, a piping bag and a dough container.
Once you’ve made your biscuit or cookie dough you’re meant to roll this out on the silicone baking sheet which we found quite difficult. The rolling pin kept slipping and wasn’t really rolling much out but we got there in the end. The silicone baking sheet held quite well while we were trying to roll out the dough, although because it’s a little on the small side you can only do small amounts at a time. Having said that, you can only roll it to a certain thickness so all the biscuits do end up even!
Toby enjoyed “helping” and luckily he really liked getting the biscuit dough together. It’s a bit of a shame there’s no recipe card inside the box as I think this would be a nice little addition. The kit itself is pretty basic, and I don’t think there’s much need for the piping bag unless you were going to make viennese whirls or pipe cream between the biscuits.
You’re only able to make a few small cookies at a time, rather than a big batch so this is definitely only a kit that allows children to help with what you might already be baking, rather than providing an actual baking kit for them to use well.
As with the Cake Pops kit, I think it’s a good rainy day activity but not something I’d go out and buy tomorrow.
