The eco-friendly, plastic-free ball is well and truly rolling now people! Everything we know from straws to cotton buds, sanitary pads to plastic bottles and bags are being switched out for more eco-friendly options. I’ve made a couple of changes this year and have made conscious decisions about what I’ve been buying in the shops too; asking myself if it’s recyclable, reusable and even if it’s just necessary. One area I’ve been wanting to tackle is the bathroom but I haven’t yet taken the plunge; from changing to eco-friendly shaving to more environmentally friendly soaps and cleaning products.
Eco-Friendly Shaving
Reco recently got in touch to make me aware of their eco-friendly shaving safety razor starter box. I know I certainly go through a lot of disposable razors throughout the year and could probably do with making a change there. I always have reservations about swapping things out that I know work for me. I occasionally have sensitive skin, or I’m just so used to doing something a particular way and it’s hard to want to make the initial jump but it’s all worth it so I’m willing to try a few things out.

The Reco plastic free shaving starter box comes with a perfectly weighted and stylish razor. This is accompanied by a shaving soap bar which is made with orange and lavender essential oils to ensure a nice, thick lather and a pack of 5 superior Astra razor blades which are all individually wrapped in recyclable materials.
The whole starter kit is currently on offer at £25 and comes through the post, perfectly small enough for your letterbox as Reco use as little packaging as possible. However, if you’d like to ensure the kit comes in pristine condition (if you’re sending it as a gift, for example) there is the option to add additional packaging. Delivery is also free, hurray!

Why You Should Choose To Do It
Firstly, it’s plastic free. There are billions of disposable razors that get thrown away every year and you’ll be saving these from going to landfill or ending up in all sorts of places.
A razor with replaceable blades, which cost as little as 30p each, could be a worthwhile investment. Each blade is made from stainless steel, lasts between 4-6 shaves and is fully recyclable.
Fewer blades means less skin irritation. Safety razors tend to have a single blade across the board thus allowing it to glide over the skin and cut hairs cleanly, rather than at angles or sometimes not at all. Multiple blades tend to pull the hairs out of the follicle which could lead to ingrown hairs and razor bumps.
Due to its long handle the Reco safety razor can be used all over the body. It’s a unisex design so anyone can use it – although Reco don’t recommend sharing a razor if you’re using it in the more intimate areas.
