Spring into Style: Simple Tips to Give Your Home a Seasonal Refresh

It’s easy to go years without paying attention to your interior decor. Juggling a busy work and family life can leave your home feeling neglected and uninspiring. As the days grow longer, it’s time to address this and bring your house out of hibernation.

Check out these easy ways to transform your home this spring; from welcoming in new colours to clearing out the clutter. I’ve already started mine with the post-Christmas declutter, but we’ve had a couple of days more recently where I’ve been able to throw open the windows and crack on with a big spring clean, and that always comes with a bit of a jiggle around in the room and thinking ahead to how I can elevate the room in the coming months.

Introduce Fresh Colours and Patterns

Incorporating lighter, pastel shades of yellows, blues, and lilacs can be a simple way to revitalise your space. You can redecorate the walls of an entire room, but if you want something more low-key, consider adding colour on a smaller scale. Swapping out cushion covers from muted beige tones to soft greens and pinks improves the ambience of your living room and bedrooms without breaking the bank.

In the kitchen, adding something as simple as a yellow butter dish or floral oven gloves to match the new feeling of sunshine can make all the difference. If you’ve a lamp on a sideboard, consider changing the lampshade to something a bit more refreshing and colourful too.

Refresh Your Bathroom with Modern Fixtures

You don’t have to rip your bathroom out and replace it entirely to rejuvenate it. Installing new mirrors or heated towel rails can add a hint of elegance to a room that is beginning to feel dated. Upgrading to illuminated bathroom mirrors can enhance functionality while adding a modern flair. They produce light without casting shadows by incorporating LEDs, usually along the border or behind the mirror.

This built-in lighting removes the need for overhead bulbs, which can cast shadows and create uneven light, making applying makeup or shaving more needlessly tricky. A mirror with lights can also visually enhance a small or previously dimly lit room, making it feel brighter and more spacious by reflecting both natural and artificial light. Additionally, the illusion of depth created by a large LED mirror helps open up the space, making it feel less confined.

Incorporate Natural Elements

Bring the outdoors inside to create a relaxing atmosphere. Floral patterns and wooden tables pair well with potted plants and flowery bouquets. Not only do they add natural dots of colour, but they can also improve air quality. Remember to change incense and sprays from wintery cinnamon notes to spring fragrances. Floral scents like rose, geranium, and jasmine in a reed diffuser or candle offer long-lasting flower aromas to high-traffic hallways or guest bedrooms.

Thanks to the better weather, you can also spend more time in the garden. Consider it an extra room to relax in with a new book under the pergola. On sunny days, you could even fire up the barbecue!

Reorganise Living Spaces

Spring is a great time to clear out and tidy, so focus on creating inviting, airy environments. If space is premium and you want clear pathways, opt for practical furniture that incorporates storage.  Include a bench with a lid to a shoebox in the hallway to store the kid’s shoes. Alternatively, a footstool in the living room could also serve as a coffee table.

What do you do to elevate your home in the spring time? Lots of people go all out, and others spend time swapping out the small bits. I love that you can rejuvenate and refresh a room with the simple and less expensive things that work year in, year out.
