Review | Tommee Tippee Express and Go

Keeping up with the pace of modern mums who choose to breastfeed and express but still want a social life, the Tommee Tippee ‘Express and Go’ system has just been released. And just in time for World Breastfeeding Week too. I like to think I’m a modern day mum; I love all the baby gadgets and inventions that are on the market and often try out a few new things here and there, so when I was asked if I’d like to give the Tommee Tippee Express and Go a try, I couldn’t say no.

While I was almost exclusively feeding Teddy at the breast, he does now have a couple of bottles a day. Not only does this give me a break but it also allows some bonding time with other people, especially Daddy. It also means we can now leave both children with the grandparents while we have some much needed time together without worrying about when Ted next needs a feed.

I had previously expressed with Toby but always found that I would get varying amounts, sometimes not even expressing half an ounce. Imagine my dismay when I then had to transfer what little I could express into a pouch, and then back to a bottle when we wanted to give it to him – losing those precious drops somewhere in between. Tommee Tippee to the rescue in just four steps!

Step 1 – Express

Express your milk directly into a pouch, which is pre-sterilised (woohoo!). It’s as simple as that! The Tommee Tippee Express and Go comes with adaptors you can use to fit your existing breast pump, (Medela, Lansinoh, Evenflo, Ameda, Philips Avent or Tommee Tippee), to which you then attach the pouch. I was a little disappointed that the ‘complete starter set’ comes without a breast pump as this is the core of the system but luckily I already had one, so please note you will have to buy this separately!

Step 2 – Store

The pouches hold up to 6oz each, which is great for me because I’ve never managed to express more than 5oz! However, for those who are super booby milk pumpers, it’s probably not enough and you would probably benefit from a larger pouch, possibly around 8oz. Secondly, the pouches are only made for one use so you would have to buy more once you started running low. In the future I would like to see a reusable pouch – it certainly cuts down on more waste and I’m not talking breastmilk.

The Tommee Tippee Express and Go comes with a storage case which slots comfortably into your fridge or freezer without taking up too much room and can hold up to 12 pouches at a time. It’s great to have a stock when you’re ready for that night out, or just in case the other half fancies a night feed!

The pouches also come with a space for you to write the date and the amount expressed so don’t forget to do that; much easier to know which one to use next.

Step 3 – Warm

From fridge or from freezer, you can get it to the perfect temperature with the pouch and bottle warmer. Just pop it in, set the warmer using the options on the front, and it’s ready to drink straight from the pouch. No need to transfer back to a bottle, no fuss and no crying baby waiting longer for their milk than they have to. Best of all, there’s no hormonal breakdown over spilt milk, because there isn’t any!

If you do choose to express and then transfer to a bottle, or even if you decide to move on to formula feeding, this will also heat your bottles. You just have to remove the grey insert to allow room for the bottle and follow the same process. It’s as simple as that. Which leads us nicely on to feeding.

Step 4 – Feed

The Express and Go provide 2x teats in size 0 and 2x teats in size 1.  These simply attach to the pouch and a plastic holder so that you can feed your baby straight from the pouch. No transfer, no fuss.

And that really is it, and it really is as simple as that. It has a couple of down points with the pouches but all around, I’d recommend this to anybody for ease – and it means you get to have that glass of wine you’ve been dreaming of for the last 9 months!

    • Hi Debra. Of course you can, I’d suggest using some hot water in a jug if you need to, or you could use another type of bottle warmer. I wouldn’t recommend the microwave x

    • Yes you can.
You can heat a cup or bowl of water in the microwave and then set the pouch in the warm water.
If frozen, while the bowl of water is heating, stick the pouch under a faucet of warm water. It will save a little time.
Just never heat milk or formula directly in the microwave. This goes for any bottles used.

  • Hi Jade,

Thanks for the great review. I’m a first time Mum and all these products are so overwhelming LOL

I have bought the steriliser starter kit from tomee tipper but now am thinking I need this instead. I’m planning on breast feeding for 6 months and having a store (ideally) for 6 months after that. Before I start exchanging am I right in thinking that as the pouches are sterilised then I don’t need to sterilise the bottle? And if I do need to sterilise the bottle can I just do this using sterilising water tablets or would I need to keep the tomee riper sterling sing kit as well? Sorry if I sound stupid! LOL

    • Stupid auto correct * closure to nature starter essentials kit (includes steriliser and warmer) is this type of steriliser needed? Do you know of this warmer is suitable for use with the express and go kit? X

      • Hi Bianca. I know, they can be terribly overwhelming, especially first time round but you’ll work it all out and be a fab mum, I’m sure!

This isn’t a sterilising kit, everything is all pre done so yes you’re right in one way. The milk in the pouches stays in the pouches and attaches to a holder and teat so you won’t need a bottle if you express into these. If, however, you are going to express into a bottle, or feed baby from a bottle then you do still need to sterilise. I used cold water tablets as I found them much more convenient, whereas others sometimes use microwave sterilisers or the electric ones xx

    • Hi Ivy, you wouldn’t need any more plastic holders. They’re reusable and you’ll only use one each time baby feeds. Plenty of time to give them a wash/sterilise if you feel the need but I just gave mine a rinse as they don’t actually go in baby’s mouth. Hope that helps X

  • This looks amazing!! I’ll definitely be getting one of these before my little boy is due! Does anyone know where I can get the pouches from once I have ran out? Xx

    • Hi Becka. It really is fab! Helped out so much with Ted. You can get them online at Kiddicare and Amazon, or online and in store at Mothercare X

      • Ive just ordered one I couldn’t wait I got too excited lol, I’ve just looked on eBay and you can get 30 pouches for £15 I’ll only really be using the pouches for when I’m out or when my partner does night feeds any other time I’ll be breast feeding! It looks amazing though I can’t wait to use it. Xx

        • Ahh you will love it! I’m finished with mine now and I’ve put it away for potential baby number three haha. That’s a great pouch bargain on eBay, that’s a great find! Hope it all goes well with baby x

          • This is my 3rd baby so no more after this one lol, it’s amazing I can’t wait to use it! Ahh thank you! I’m all ready for him coming now just need him to hurry up. Xx

  • This is brilliant. The Madam never had a bottom (flatly refused aged 3 months) so when I went to work I would pump and she would have that out of the cup but heating it, remembering to take it out of the fridge. Losing some of it when transferring it from pump bottle to bag to cup was just heartbreaking. Or even spilling it! This is truly revolutionary, the fact it works with any pump system is brilliant as most people have bought into one of these already, but new mums haven’t always thought of the logistics – love it. Great review.

    • It’s a great gadget isn’t it! It’s not the first of its kind, but it’s certainly set to make some waves for breastfeeding mums, especially those who express. Takes out so many of those ‘inbetween’ steps xx
