Travel | Simple Upgrades That Could Change Your Life

Whether you’re travelling for a holiday, a work function, or any other reason, you can use a few tips and tricks to make your  journey as pleasant as possible. These changes don’t involve changing your itinerary or breaking the bank either, meaning you get to make a few small changes that have a major impact. If you’re ready to learn a few simple travel tricks, check out the below.

Choose Direct Routes When Possible

I genuinely can’t insist upon this more that I already do, especially if you’re travelling with kids. Whether it’s a layover or a complicated transfer, indirect routes are longer and can give you a major headache, especially if there’s already been one long leg. That’s why I’d recommend choosing a direct route wherever possible. If you can’t, think about the option of exploring your layover destination where possible for a day or two to break up the journey. If you’re stuck because of delayed flights, have things in mind that you might be able to do whilst waiting.

If you’re travelling by plane, train, or ferry, it can be tempting to choose the cheaper option and travel in two sections with a break in between. In most cases, however, you increase your travel stress. Instead of relaxing for the entire journey, you now have to ensure the first leg arrives on time and that you make it to the departing platform before your connecting transport leaves.

If you’re based in the UK, one of the simplest ways to avoid the stress of multiple legs is by looking into cruises from Southampton. These sailings allow you to start your holiday from a UK port, making it possible to enjoy international travel without needing to first fly to another country.

Invest In Better Travel Accessories

Believe it or not, your travel accessories also have a big impact on your experience. Upgrading to noise-cancelling headphones, for example, is a perfect way to tune out the various noises created by all the other travellers. In comparison, listening through regular headphones can often be drowned out by others.

You should also consider taking a high-capacity power bank with you. This can help ensure that you have enough charge across all your devices to fully enjoy the travelling experience, rather than getting stuck midway through your flight or train journey.

Upgrade To Extra Legroom

One of the most common issues on flights, especially for taller people, is the lack of legroom. Sitting for hours in a cramped position can be extremely uncomfortable, which is why I’d recommend upgrading to seats with extra legroom, especially if the flight is a little longer than you’d normally like. This will give you the extra space you need to sit comfortably and stretch your legs out, rather than be stuck with little movement space.

If you can’t afford the ‘extra legroom’ seats, consider booking an aisle seat so at least you can sit sideways with your legs out after the drinks cart has gone past!

Book Guided Excursions In Advance

Many excursions offer exclusive opportunities to those who book in advance, including line skipping tickets, additional information, and other perks. In contrast, if you pay on the day, you might even be denied entry.

Booking in advance not only guarantees your spot, but it’s also a great way to access some optional extras. Some guided cultural tours, for instance, offer unique brochures that provide further details on the area you’re visiting.
