10 top tips for an easier birth – Guest post from Ickle Pickle

Today’s guest post is from the lovely Kaz over at The Little Life of Ickle Pickle. Kaz’s blog isn’t quite what you’d expect as she blogs through her toddler’s eyes, which I think is absolutely fab! Although with his permission, she takes over after 7pm! Please pop over and say hi to Kaz and Ickle Pickle.

I have had four babies; one emergency caesarean, two natural births and, my last, a hypnobirth.

All of my births were incredible but my hypnobirth was an absolutely amazing experience and I have some top tips to help your birth be a positive experience too.

1. Bring an open mind. You can have a polished birth plan, but you don’t ever really know how it will go.

2. Go with the flow. Following on from my first point, just embrace and go with whatever is happening.

3. Every pregnancy and birth is different. The early stages, the contractions, every stage.

4. Trust your gut feeling – your intuition. Believe in yourself and your body.

5. Fear can increase pain. One thing to remember – your body was built to do this.

6. Deep breathing works wonders. Literally, breathe as deep as is comfortable in, and out.

7. Play some relaxing background music.

8. Tune into your body. What you are feeling, where.

9. Imagine your cervix is a flower gently opening. (Don’t laugh, this is very powerful. Visualisation is great to help you relax and keep control).

10. Keep hydrated, drink lots of water.

A really good ‘list’ post with some great top tips there. I would definitely agree with going in with an open mind, I wish I’d had done this with my first as when my birth plan didn’t go as ‘planned’, I wasn’t mentally ready so please be prepared! I wish I could’ve thought about number 9, I was far too drugged up to think about anything opening anywhere. Thanks for guest posting!
