I think we can all agree that we love food, it’s everywhere and it’s our energy source. I like to explore new recipes, learn how to cook new things and most of all I love eating. And there’s a lovely little place in Little Portland Street called Cookery School that I’m quite looking forward to visiting in the near future.
Cookery School Courses
Cookery School host a variety of courses in food. Whether you’re an absolute beginner wanting to learn about soups, stews and roasts, a teenager looking to learn essential basics or a confident baker looking to amplify your skills – there’s something for everyone of any age.

With any class, Cookery School aim to keep it simple and accessible; there’s no jargon, confidence is lifted and myths are broken down which will leave you fearless in the kitchen at home.
Classes are single sessions, but there are also courses available if you’re more local to the area. They say they want to take people back to “honest, homely, delicious cooking” and I am here for it. Nothing delights me more than a home cooked meal that really hits the pit of my stomach and leaves me feeling good from the inside out. The food you’ll create will be easy, non-fancy and you won’t need to be a Michelin star chef to achieve it, though you might feel like you deserve one with your new found skills.

I always wish that at school we’d been taught more about raw ingredients and how to use them and how to cook effectively using seasonal produce. I think it’s something that’s really lacking in this age of convenience – it’s all too easy to pick something up from the supermarket but I think that’s taking the heart out of the dish.
Sustainability
In their own words Cookery School say they are “committed to sustainability” and this is proven in the use of their ingredients; top quality and mainly organic. It’s the very essence of the school and they’re working where possible to reduce their footprint through food.

It’s the most sustainable school in London and you can find out more about what they do to keep it this way; think renewable energy, sourcing locally, no single-use plastic right through to steaming Christmas puddings under the turkey which, believe it or not, saves on the energy.
I have to say, I’m very impressed with everything they do and reading their sustainability page has got me wondering what I can do in the kitchen here!
