It has only very recently come to my attention that River Island have a children’s collection! Yes, you read that right, I have clearly been living under a rock. And by recently, I mean when River Island contacted me asking if I wanted to review some of their clothes from their Mini Collection. Woohoo!
I love a good kid’s wardrobe as much as the next mum, and I think it’d be hard for any of us to deny that generally our children have better clothes than us, so I wasn’t about to turn down this well known high street brand.

I spent a good while perusing the whole collection, and there wasn’t that much that I didn’t like and I knew I’d struggle to whittle it down to a few pieces and I decided I’d like to try and split the clothes between both of the boys, plus I really love them dressing in the same things at the moment. Twinning is winning, that’s the saying isn’t it? And so with that, we got some really cool pieces for summer, if it ever turns up.
By far, some of my favourite pieces, were the slightly more quirky ones, although I did pick out a few staple items. I love this red t-shirt and short combo set, the boys suit red really well despite the slightly questionable colour of their hair, and I loved that I could twin them up. The fabric on this is similar to that of a football shirt and I found the shorts absolutely perfect for the warmer weather because they’re so light and airy.

One of the more quirky pieces from the collection are the purple and star print shorts, which I absolutely adore, and lots of other people did too. They’re actually swimming shorts, as they have the net in them, but I used them in the day time and they’re also perfect for the hotter weather! Toby’s ‘Attitude’ t-shirt is pretty cool too, hey?

I am so impressed with this collection and I can hand on heart say that these are some of the nicest clothes the boys have worn. The materials are light, airy and are of good quality. They’re mostly true to size, although I found the 12-18 months a little big around the waist for Ted, but I can’t really blame River Island because Ted is pretty small for his age, compared to how big Toby was at this age any way.
I was pleasantly surprised with how well the clothes wash, I’m always a little dubious that something might shrink, or the colour might run or that it might lose its shape but these seem in pretty good nick after being through the machine a few times already. I must say I was also really happy with how well they ironed. There’s nothing worse than not being able to get a crease out of some clothes because they’re washed in but these were really good and I didn’t have to have it on full whack either.
I really, really love this collection and will now be making a point of visiting their store to have a good look through the collection. I’m really excited to see what they come up with for the Autumn/Winter collection.
