Who doesn’t love a good breakfast to start the day? I know that as a teenager I could go all morning without something to eat, but now if I don’t eat something before 9am I turn into something resembling the mum version of ‘The Hulk’. Seriously.
Toby has always been a huge breakfast eater, with this being the biggest meal of his day. He is currently addicted to his ‘choc podge’ which in our language is chocolate porridge, or porridge with a huge dollop of Nutella mixed in. Lucky kid! The one thing he’s actually never had is a cold breakfast. He will either have porridge, warm Weetabix, toast or crumpets, anything that needs cooking or at least warming up. He’s never had cereal before and he’s almost 3.
HiPP Organic have recently released their toddler cereal range in a bit to add some fun to breakfast times. The range is advertised as a fruity and flavoursome breakfast, with no added sugar and it’s suitable for children aged 15 months+. But what would my little judge think?
Personally, I love that there’s no added sugar, and I love that it’s meant to be fruity. I had hoped it might get Toby liking fruit again, or at least for him to get used to some of the flavours of fruits. I had also hoped that these new cereals would add at least a little variety to his breakfast time without us giving him grown up cereals which are usually pretty high in sugar. I love that the range is made with organic ingredients and I actually really liked the two options.
For Toby who, as I said, is almost three, the packaging is a little childish, but for Ted who I’ll be trying this on at the end of next month is perfect. Having said that, it does still look a little retro and probably wouldn’t stand out on a shelf next to some of the other, more brightly coloured, ranges available.
HiPP Organic Fruity O’s

I can’t say Toby was a huge fan of these. Whether it’s because he’s not used to having cereal and milk, or a cold breakfast, he just wasn’t particularly interested in even tasting them, but did give them a go. While they look appealing, they do have quite a cardboard like texture and, after tasting one myself, they don’t really taste of much either. I know kids are a lot more sensitive to flavours when they’re younger but I don’t think we’d get these for Toby. We’re yet to see what Teddy makes of them though!

HiPP Organic Fruity Muesli with Crispy Ducks

Toby enjoyed these a lot more than the other cereal, probably with the main reason being that he quite likes his muesli warm. The crispy ducks were really appealing to him because they look, and taste, like chocolate and he made lots of quacking noises which was really good. Plus, these weren’t half as cardboard like as the Fruity O’s. Yum yum!
