It’s week 30 and we’re well and truly getting into the home stretch this week.. especially since I’m not going full term!
What’s Happening To You In Week 30?
What a week it is for you, young man! Busy scoping out your surroundings, even though you can’t see much because it’s pretty dark in there right? You’re unlikely to gain any length or weight though as your brain is growing so rapidly – again! You’ve grown to more or less the size of a pumpkin/winter squash by now and are already measuring about 15-17 inches (crown to heel).
Red blood cells have started to form in your bone marrow. Your hair (if you have any) has started growing thicker, however, you’re slowly but surely shedding the downy hair (lanugo) on your skin. To help you take your first breaths, fluid is now present inside the alveoli within your lungs.
While you were head down at the midwife last week, I’m pretty sure you’re laying transverse at the moment and you’ve started poking all sorts of bits into my ribs, exactly the same as your big brother did.
What’s Happening To Mummy In Week 30?
I look, and feel, huge this week! Even your dad has commented and said how big my belly has gotten. I do often wonder whether I’m bigger or smaller than I was when I was pregnant with Toby. Thankfully heartburn has not made a return just yet, although there was one day where I had it ALL day and it was horrendous. Everything I ate made it worse. I caught myself in the mirror the other day only to realise I had these veins out of nowhere! I remember it with Toby but they didn’t really come out until I started breastfeeding, whereas they are quite obvious already this time round. Oh yeah, speaking of which my boobs are already in the nursing bras I had last time, what’s that about?
I think I’ve been experiencing sciatica this week as I’ve been having pain down my right leg, all the way from the top of my bum. It’s more obvious when I’m in bed though. Luckily I’ve FINALLY sorted out a pregnancy pillow, but haven’t used it yet! I’ve been sleeping with a normal pillow between my legs and tucked slightly under my bump. I’ve also been experiencing pins and needles in both legs and feet, which really hurts if I try to wiggle my toes around.
I’m exactly the same as I was during my first pregnancy when it comes to cravings. I don’t have any at all, I just can’t stop eating, although the hunger has subsided recently. I did manage seconds of a chinese takeaway last night though.. (don’t tell anyone). It’s dawning on me very quickly that soon I’ll be packing my hospital bag and getting ready to meet this baby. We still wonder who he’s going to look like and I’m getting very fidgety about this whole caesarean section!
Here we are at week 30 – I’ve gone for a front facing shot as well this week because I feel so wide and wanted you to see!
Do you think I’ve gotten bigger in a week? I certainly feel it!

Aw lovely bump shots, you look fab though I remember that wide feeling! Glad all is ok though sciatica is never nice- hope the pregnancy pillow helps! Thanks for linking with #MaternityMondays xx
Thank you! I feel so big I feel like I might end up with a mummy’s apron this time round. Tried the pregnancy pillow last night and it worked – hurray. Thank you, as always, for hosting 🙂 xx
