Afternoon tea with BabyBjorn

Last Thursday, I made my way to Covent Garden Hotel to meet up with BabyBjorn, and some other mummy/daddy bloggers, to have some afternoon tea and cakes! It was the first “event” I’d be invited to and I was terribly nervous, which is weird, because usually you can’t shut me up. Luckily, I met up with Kelly from More Than Just a Mummy, and her gorgeous little bird Tia, just outside the tube station and I felt instantly relieved that I wouldn’t be walking in to the room on my own!

Most of the others were already there and it was lovely to meet Jim from One Dad One Blog, Donna from The London Mum, Emma from The Glam Mummy, Michelle from What Mummy Thinks and Laura from Mummy’s Zone and just spend a couple of hours talking about everything from our blogs, to our children and of course getting to sneak preview the new colours for some of their products.

I am a huge fan of pastel colours anyway, especially with Spring in the air and Summer just around the corner, so naturally I was drawn to everything they’d bought along for us to view. The first thing you saw when you walked in, aside from the sandwiches and cakes (I was pretty hungry), were their range of bibs, bowls, cups and cutlery.

The bowls effectively have 3 different sections for you to put food into, without there being a physical divide. I’m finding these particularly useful especially as I like Toby to be able to try different tastes together. The pelican bibs, while moulded into shape, are so nice! I initially thought these would be too small for Toby, but they’re absolutely perfect – especially for catching his porridge or Weetabix in the morning. The other great thing about them is that they act as a second bowl and Toby is more than happy to scoop out whatever’s fallen into the pouch.

The cups couldn’t have come at a better time as we’re starting to encourage Toby to drink from a proper one, instead of his beaker. They’re weighted at the bottom and there’s less chance of them falling over and great for toddlers to get both hands round. The spoons are deep enough to hold a good amount of food without it falling off the side. As you can see, the colours are so vibrant without being too “in your face”, so they really appeal to children, and it’s so refreshing to see a range that has unisex colours in there rather than your standard blue and pink!

One of the other very clever things BabyBjorn have come up with is their new changing bag! The outside is a standard colour, though I’m told the lining will come in a few different colours, so this is fantastic for dads who maybe don’t want to carry around the lovely pink one you’ve bought for yourself! It’s like a tote and has two compartments on the outside, at either end, to store things that you’ll need to hand – such as bottles. There’s a small section at the front too (as seen in the picture) with a magnetic pocket to keep some things a bit safer.

The inside is very spacious, and it’s so nice to find a bag that’s deep, rather than wide, to fit all your things in. It also comes with a changing mat. Both the bag and changing mat are one handed opening, which is so convenient if you’re struggling to juggle a couple of things at once, or don’t want to put baby down before you lay the mat out. However, the show stopping feature of this bag is that in literally one pull, this bag goes from a shoulder tote to a rucksack. It has a very clever mechanism on the back to allow you to carry this bag on your back without the need to transfer anything out of it. This is a fabulous feature for those mums and dads who use a baby carrier at the front and don’t want to feel like they’re being dragged down on one side of their body – and it should be great for your posture too!

The next thing I have to tell you about is their highchair. While it doesn’t come in a pastel colour, there are so many other great features about this. It’s really light and folds up into a compact highchair, a stark contrast to my huge padded one that practically has a kitchen corner dedicated to it! There is literally nowhere for food to hide in this chair, so you won’t find yourself hoovering out underneath the padding and in all the nooks and crannies either. It has a two step safety lock, that only an adult will be able to open, to stop those escapee attempts. It has a curved backrest and adjustable tray depth so your child should fit in this snugly, which is why it’s suitable for those who are 6 months to 3 years. I just loved everything about it and feel that maybe a treat is in order! I’m convincing myself I need one anyway, since there’ll be a second baby around soon!

The last thing I looked at was the bouncers and the new baby carries. Oh my goodness, they are just beautiful. I can’t even begin to tell you how in love with them I am. They come in such amazing colours and I can’t wait to try them out. I was particularly a fan of the pastel green carrier, it’s a great unisex colour and that “minty” colour is really in fashion at the moment, I love it. I wouldn’t say the bouncers were particularly unisex, but since I’m going to have two boys, I was taken in by the pastel blue one they had.

It was such a lovely afternoon, and a great way for me to feel a bit more settled should I get to attend any more events, though I’m sure they’d love to have us back when those who went have had their babies! These products will be out later in the year and I am so excited for you to get your hands on them!
