Survey | Let’s Talk About Incontinence

Incontinence affects millions of people around the world. For example, during the later stages of pregnancy, a lot of strain can be put on the female’s bladder which can sometimes cause incontinence issues. We probably all know it doesn’t get much better post birth either. I’m happy to admit I suffer with incontinence issues but only during any form of exercise. Ok, ok.. maybe when I cough and sneeze too. But why don’t we talk about?

You’re right, it’s nothing to shout about, but it’s nothing to be ashamed of either. I don’t wear pads during every day ventures, but I’ll admit I do pop one in if I’m going to play netball or go running. Probably best to wear one on the trampoline too.

It’s not just pregnancy that can contribute toward incontinence, but many other factors too, and it’s worth remembering men can suffer with it as well. Here are just a few of the things that can make incontinence worse:

  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Decaf tea and coffee
  • Fizzy drinks
  • Sweeteners
  • Some syrups
  • Foods high in spice, sugar or acid, especially citrus fruits such as lemon and lime
  • Medication prescribed for heart and blood pressure, sedatives and muscle relaxants
  • Large doses of vitamins B or C

It’s just unfortunate that child birth is the cause of mine as the damage is irreversible. Yes, it’s a manageable condition and there are things I can do to help such as my pelvic floor muscles which I saw a physiotherapist for, but it’s not something that can ever be fixed for me unfortunately. I would really love for you to take a quick survey to let me know how you feel about incontinence. It literally takes 30 seconds to complete and would really help Hartmann find out what people really think about it
