Having two boys is hard work, but do you know what’s harder? Trying to buy first birthday presents for the second one. Teddy has mostly had hand me down toys from Toby and has never really had anything of his own, bar a few outfits and a couple of new bottles and teats when he was born, so I’d really like to give him a little treat or two for his first birthday. Yes, that’s right.. next week my little baby will be one! Where has that time gone?
I’ve been thinking long and hard about what to get him but it’s just not easy. His clothes don’t last for more than a month at a time and he’s got plenty of those anyway and he loves playing with anything, even if it’s totally unsuitable for him he’ll give it a go! So what do you buy the second child of the same gender, with a 20 month age difference? Here are literally just a few ideas that I can come up with, but if you have any more inspiration I’d really love to know!
I really, really love this ‘London Bus Ride On’ from Kiddimoto. It’s pretty pricey at £69.99 but you just know it’s going to last, and it’s one of those toys that they can grow with, and will look like something old and vintage once they’ve been on it a few times. I love that it’s red too. Despite both of my boys having slightly gingery hair, red is definitely their colour. It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?
Toby has lots of book collections, and Ted doesn’t really have any of his own since Toby has all the well known ones, apart from Dr. Seuss. I never had Dr. Seuss books as a kid so I’ve actually already bought these from Amazon at £29.48 and I’m excited to read them myself, let alone reading them to the boys. I’ve gone for ‘A Classic Case of Dr. Seuss’, so they’ll be more of the well known ones, but this also leaves room for us to expand the collection too. Can’t wait to get them open!
Toby got a Jamm Scoot for his first birthday in the racer red and Teddy absolutely loves it. I’d really love to get him his own, but just to be different we’d probably opt for the aqua coloured version, just so Toby knows it’s not for him! Considering the use Toby has had out of his Jamm Scoot we know they’re value for money and stand up well in a durability test against the cupboards and walls, so at £56 you can’t really complain. It’s a solid wooden toy that won’t get old!
Ted is quite a musical baby, nothing like Toby really. He will dance and clap along to most tunes and loves being sung to. We do have an instrument set and I did consider getting Ted his own, but quickly remembered why Toby’s instruments are at the bottom of the toy box. Instead, we’ve opted for some musical and interactive toys. I got this Vtech Musical Rhymes Book and Fisher Price Laugh And Learn Puppys Piano from Boots – they were £14.40 and £12 respectively.
Other than the above we will be continuing his lessons with Water Babies and we’ll put some money in his account. We’ll also get him lots of balloons as kids love those anyway and hopefully that’ll be followed by a lovely day out somewhere. Fingers crossed for some nicer weather as we’d also love to do a cake smash like we did with Toby. I feel bad that we’re not having a small birthday gathering but his birthday falls on a really rubbish day and we just physically can’t fit it all in. I can’t believe my baby is going to be one.
