Making Our House A Home | Teddy’s Bedroom

Since Ted turned one in May, and since we have been talking about moving the boys into a bigger bedroom each for ages, I’ve decided we really need to get a move on. Unfortunately, it’s going to have to wait as we’ve had our bathrooms done recently and the hall, stairs and landing have just had a fresh coat of paint, not forgetting the recent garden work we had done. You’d think we were doing this house from scratch sometimes!

I’ve already done a post on what I’d love to have in Toby’s bedroom and I suppose in some ways, Ted’s room won’t be too dissimilar. However, with Toby I’m aiming towards something a little more grown up but with lots of fun and colourful aspects, plus a place for all of his toys, but with Ted I’d still like to make it a little more grown up than a nursery, but not so grown up that he can’t touch or play with anything. It’s proving hard to get the balance right.

Hopefully the boys will both get new carpets so what else do I see in Ted’s bedroom? Ahhh, here come just a few of the ideas!

Storage

I really want to keep this colourful as I think I might keep the walls quite neutral and plain, except one wall (see below). I’d love for there to be a mix of boxes and baskets so that there’s the option to pack some things away and keep other toys out to hand. I really love these options which could both bring something different to the room. The stripey ones are from Jojo Maman Bebe and the Kangaroo storage box is by 3Sprouts.

Similar to Toby’s bedroom I’d love a super lovely bookshelf as I want Ted to be able to have a selection of books out at all times and I’d love to create a reading corner of some kind in his room too. I think this will make a great transition when it comes to moving the bedtime story to their separate bedrooms! This bookshelf is from the Great Little Trading Co.

The one thing Ted will have when he moves bedrooms is a fitted wardrobe. These are currently pretty old and I don’t think they’re storage efficient at all. Lots of wasted space, so I really want to overhaul these. I’d really love some sliding doors, or maybe a mirrored door with a bi-folding door either side. For these we’ll probably look at Betta Living. I hate our current handles and I just think they could look so much better and really bring the room together if we changed them.

Walls

Ooh I’m a bit excited about this because I have so many ideas. I’ve found the most beautiful wallpaper which I think is perfect for getting the balance of “I’m still in a nursery but I’m growing up a bit” just right. How cute is this Mr Fox wallpaper in silver?

I only want to use this on the main wall as you walk straight into the bedroom. The other walls I’d like to keep a light grey. On the plain walls I’d love to have lots of prints, both colourful and inspirational with some pom poms draped over, or maybe a string of lights, I’m not sure yet! These prints from Not On The High Street are some of my favourites!

Ted’s Bed

Since Ted is still in a cot, we’d like for him to have something we can convert at a later date and this Sebra Kili Cot is just so yummy!

It is pretty plain, which is fine by me because it means I can totally accessorise with lots of cool prints and colours when it comes to the bedding, and there’s so much room underneath for more storage, yay!

Bedroom Accessories

When it comes to accessories it’s so hard to reign myself in. The bedroom would literally look like something out of ‘Hoarders’ if I managed to order everything I loved. I think I’d like to keep it simple with a few cool details. This Modern Life have just some of the most gorgeous bits that I’d like to get including this Tobias and Bear fox bedding set and the DIY banner which I’d love to hang over the cot, or possibly on the wall near the prints.

I know I said I’d like an Eames chair in Toby’s bedroom and I’d also like one in Ted’s, but in orange this time. Just to have that super snazzy pop of colour will be awesome and, if it’s too much, I can always tone it down with a nice grey patterned blanket.

Blinds/Curtains

As with Toby I think I’d definitely go with Velux again. They have a blackout blind, which we will need without a doubt, especially since it’s now so bright and I think I’d probably opt for a light grey colour, which I think will sit nicely in his room. While keeping the sun and heat out, they do also provide insulation to the room when needed!

I am just so looking forward to him having a bigger space to play, and for Toby to move up a notch as well. It also means my front room will look less like an aisle of toys has been emptied on to the floor and just left there without actually being played with.

Bring on the six weeks holiday, although I’m doubtful we’ll actually get this done!
