Project 365 – Week 8

I can’t believe I’m already writing week 8 of this project, this year seems to be vanishing quickly.

Monday was quite a relaxed day for Toby and I, we more or less just pottered around. However, we’ve now started doing some peg puzzles and he’s picking it up really quickly. We got these for him at Christmas and all he wanted to do was chew them, which was so annoying, that I ended up putting them in the coffee table drawer until he could actually play with them. As it turns out, his temper and patience levels are similar to mine.. almost zero! He gets frustrated very easily when he’s trying to fit a piece in, especially when it’s just upside down, and it won’t go in. But when he does get it in, he gets a big cheer and he does give himself a little clap.

I had an appointment with the consultant gynaecologist/obstetrician on Tuesday morning to try and clarify some points surrounding the delivery of baby number two. You may remember me mentioning that I’d been told, even before I’d gotten pregnant again, that I would have to deliver by caesarean section as a natural birth could hold serious complications for me. I have since been told that it’s perfectly fine to give birth naturally. After checking all my notes and deciding that the letters from those other consultants were “non-commital” and “not definite”, he’s decided he’s going to write to them to request their reasons for their suggestions and he’d see me again in 6 weeks. I am unbelievably frustrated as I will then be 32 weeks, which leaves little time for me to get my head around a birth plan. However, after talks with the other half, family and my general feeling of everything, I feel we may stick to the original plan of a caesarean regardless of what the outcome is of their discussions. It’s just one thing I need an answer for so I can make a 100% decision, and they’re cutting it quite fine.

Wednesday was a very busy day! After working all day, my local Mothercare was holding one of their “expectant parent” evenings which I thought would be good to attend. There’s nothing like a refresher course! It’s also a good place to get up to date information about health care professionals suggestions, clubs you can attend and baby accessories etc.. oh, not forgetting the little goody bag! I’m planning a post on this in the next couple of days so keep your eyes peeled. Straight after the event I then went to meet my Nan and two of my aunties for a meal out, as it was her birthday – she was 68 – (my nephew’s birthday is the same, but unfortunately I didn’t get to see him).

Thursday was great, because it really sunk in that Toby is now starting to copy some of the things we do or say. We’ve even managed to get him to do an impression of one of OH’s old colleagues. I’d love to upload the video but I can’t be too mean.

Friday afternoon saw the return of Water Babies, hurray! While Toby is picking up some of the things, he’s sometimes quite reluctant to do something, and god forbid you give him a woggle! He just wants to have it and bash everyone over the head, so I ended up taking it away from him this week and just got him to keep kicking. The instructor has suggested next time we put him in a floatation vest to aid the independent swimming.

Friday morning was mind numbing! The health visitor came round to give us baby number 2’s red book and information on lots of other things. I can not help but think she doesn’t have children of her own. She was really labouring every point to the point I just heard myself repeating “yeah” after everything she said in the hope she would just crack on and go. She was really trying to drum it into me about breastfeeding exclusively for 6 months, safe sleeping and not giving him a dummy to avoid nipple confusion. She got particularly stiff when I told her I’d started to wean Toby on to solids at 4 months old.

We had a very productive Saturday in that we got one thing crossed off of my “stressing over” list, and that was we painted the nursery. Nanny and Pop gave us a text asking if they could have Toby for the afternoon, so we decided to make the most of it and get something done! We made our way over to Homebase about 1.30pm, picked a colour (Putting Green) and managed to have the whole room done, with two coats, by about 8pm. Considering Toby came home around 4.30pm and didn’t go to bed until 7pm it was pretty good going, especially since we’d had to masking tape around all the skirting and plug holes before we could start painting too.

  • I know what you mean – this year just seems to be flying by! You did very well to get the nursery painted so quickly! Lovely pictures. Toby is so cute!

    • Luckily it wasn’t a huge room, but we did work pretty quickly! Got to make the most of the time you have when you don’t have the children. Thank you so much for reading xx
