Project 365 – Week 7

We’ve had quite a laid back week this week, I have to say. Toby and I went to Planet Zoom on Thursday to meet up with some friends. It was half term, so we knew it would be busy, but it’s like a different breed of parent comes out of the woodwork. Unfortunately it was raining so it meant that these parents had decided to bring their children to the nearest indoor soft play, to let them run riot without any supervision, because their darling children can do no wrong and they’d rather be oblivious to any wrongdoing by sipping on their crappy coffee – obviously. Needless to say I’ve never wanted to punch another mum in the face so much – yes, I said it.

Toby was playing with a football in one of the enclosed areas quite happily, until a 5/6 year old decided to come in and take the ball away from him and said “you’re not having it”. Trying to be nice I asked said child to put the ball down and kick it around with him as Toby was much younger and just wanted to play. His reply after a couple of seconds.. “Nah”. He did then put the ball down but kicked it around Toby. Well, Toby thought this was absolutely fantastic.. someone to play football with. Until the git of a horrible child kept pushing Toby when he was trying to “tackle” him. His mother came over and stood at the end of the “pitch” and screeched “Owh, down’t warry abaaaart him.. he’s jarst a bit crazy”. I was on the brink of going crazy at her and her child as she had clearly been watching what he’d been doing and said nothing. Her darling then decided to take the ball out of the area completely and run up and down the play apparatus with it tucked under his arm.

A little while later, the boy was having his lunch and he had the ball tucked under his chair, which Toby had managed to spot a mile off (the kid loves a ball!!) and went over and got it, only for the brat to get down and chase Toby and take it off of him; mum’s obviously shouting at him to come and eat his lunch telling him he can get it back in a minute. Needless to say, we didn’t stay much longer as I couldn’t bear it, plus they were about to have two parties in at once, as well as all the half term kids. Toby wasn’t too phased, it was nothing a bit of food couldn’t fix!

If you were wondering what sort of people inhabit the town in which I live.. just take a look at this.. nothing like a Tuesday morning giggle.

On the upside, I made a cracking Moroccan chicken one pot for Tuesday night’s tea – it’s a dish we have quite a lot in this house, we absolutely love it! (Psst.. it’s a BBC Good Food recipe)

Friday morning, Toby was dropped off at my auntie’s house for a sleepover as J and I were going to be attending The Baby Show (ExCel) in London. I’ll do a separate post about this though. Needless to say there were a couple of points during the day where I was tempted to just turn around and come home, but we had a lovely day out – and spent way too much!

Toby had such a great time with auntie Jo Jo and her kids, that he ended up sleeping over on Saturday night too. They went into town and had a little rest in Nero. He ate jam sandwiches, ham sandwiches and pancakes (something he will not eat for me at home.. why do kids do that?).

He had fun jumping around and playing catch and goal. We made the most of it by spending some time together on the Saturday morning and managed to clear the furniture study out, ready to become the nursery!

By 11am Sunday morning, Toby was home with us having a snuggle. He must’ve been completely worn out because he fell asleep on me watching a bit of TV which is so rare. I miss when he was a bit younger and would just creep up and have a nap on me, but I’ll have that all to come again soon…

So that’s what week 7 had to offer.. let’s see what next week brings

    • I definitely did some deep breathing, it’s the parents who manage to infuriate me more than the kids. I definitely won’t be taking him during a half term again – at least the 6 week holiday is bound to be a bit warmer so we can get outdoors instead. Haha, it does make you chuckle, especially since it was outside a HUGE Tesco we have here, you’d have thought someone would have seen it and corrected them! If you fancy cooking the chicken, it’s on the BBC Good Food website – moroccan chicken one pot! xx
