Review | Christmas Themed Little Learning Box

There’s nothing quite like having activities to hand for those rainy days we often find ourselves having, especially at this time of year because I don’t think it’s stopped raining in the last 3 weeks!

I recently found out about Little Learning Box and their wonderful activity and resource boxes. While it’s nice for the kids to do activities, I like to think there’s always an educational element so that we’re learning while playing and the Little Learning Box offers exactly this.

Upon opening our first box, Christmas themed no less, I was met with a ‘Grown Ups’ sheet which gave me an overview of what’s actually in the box. This meant I could plan accordingly and lay the options out to the boys. With seven options there’s a whole week’s worth of activities.

Activities In The Little Learning Box

I’m not going to go into too much detail for a couple of reasons. The first is that I haven’t done some of the more practical activities as they’re Christmas themed and I’ve held them back for December, and the second is that I would like to maintain some mystery about what’s inside.

All activities are packed separately so you can grab and go if you need to. Inside each one there’s a sheet; at the top you’ll have some characters so that at the end of the activity you can reward your child with the corresponding sticker. There may also be some practical resources.

The first one I picked up was ‘Communication and Language’. Inside the pack, as well as the sheet, we had the ‘Dear Santa’ book. I had a good look at the activity sheet first which gave me a learning objective for either a younger or older child, as well as bullet point ideas for what I could do with the activity, as well as some wise words at the bottom to help open up further learning and questions.

We absolutely love this book anyway as we do have it and it meant that I could use this as a gateway to open up a second activity which was all about Literacy. We’re going to be writing letters to Father Christmas soon so by reading the book and seeing what they got for Christmas allowed me to ask the boys what they might like to ask for this year.

What I Think

Other activities include Maths, Physical Development, Expressive Arts & Design (looking forward to doing this one!) and more.

I’m really impressed with the contents of the box and love that this one is Christmas themed. It’s designed as a pre-school box so this was a little bit young for my two older boys, but I was able to adjust them and get Milo involved too. The boxes cover all 7 areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and they’re been created by experienced primary school teachers; everything has been designed to help learn in a fun way, but also help prepare them for nursery or reception which is brilliant as Ted has just started reception.
