Ted’s Cake Smash | The Pictures

Ok, so everyone knows what a cake smash is, right? If you don’t, where have you been? I would love to do one of these if I looked good in a pair of frilly knickers and a party hat, wooden spoon in hand. It probably won’t happen though since I am now mid twenties. Boo. There are perks to having kids, one being that you get to eat all the smashed cake. Winner!

Toby had a cake smash and so I thought it only right that Teddy have one too. Unfortunately we had to do Teddy’s indoors because the weather was so pants, even at the end of May. Personally, I don’t think I’d ever take them to a professional studio to get these done purely because I think home photographs of this sort of thing are much more authentic, unedited and just plain old fun. Toby and Teddy’s Pop took both sets of pictures but these are just a few from Teddy’s.

I know, I know. He’s cute, but you’re really wondering who made that delicious cake aren’t you? Luckily, Toby and Teddy’s Nanny is a dab hand at baking and makes a pretty mean cake. So mean that before I met Jamie, I didn’t like cake.. and now I can’t stop bloody eating it.

One recipe book I’ve been reading from lately is Churchill’s Cookbook. It’s a small hand held book filled with totally classic recipes. It’s pretty old fashioned in itself too. No pictures of the food, the recipes don’t take up a page each and there aren’t any cheesy pictures of the author throughout the book either. This is a timeless book and Churchill suggests a pretty awesome chocolate cake recipe on page 147 amongst some other recipes that we’ll also be testing out when we can get our bake on.

There are a few things I’ve never heard of before and certainly don’t know how to make so it’ll be like a mini Great British Bake Off challenge for myself. The recipes are an insight into what Churchill himself would’ve eaten during the Second World War. These were mostly created by his personal chef, Georgina Landemare, someone whom Churchill could not have managed through the war without – he said it himself.
