Lifestyle | C’est La Vie To Those Oooops Moments

Ever since becoming a mum I have had more mishaps than at any other time in my life. There have been more embarrassing moments than I care to count, and times when I just don’t want to parent. We’re all going to have those moments. But do you know what? I’ve come to accept that this is my new normal. I am a mum who bumbles through the day, usually with at least one embarrassing moment.

TENA have just launched a new campaign to encourage all of us to say ‘C’est la vie’ to all of our Oooops moments, big or small! One of my frequent “Oooops moments” is probably wetting myself. That’s the kind of moment we mean.

Clearly my bladder isn’t what it used to be after two kids. Jumping on a trampoline is out of the question, a sneeze or a cough can leave my knickers a bit wet and laughing so hard you can’t breathe.. well, let’s just say I try not to! By the way, crossing your legs or trying to hold it in with your hand usually doesn’t cut it.

But you know what, that’s my body for you now; c’est la vie! Ok, every time I hear that I feel the urge to break out into an Irish jig like the girls from B*Witched, argh! Instead of being embarrassed about my “Oooops moments” I’ve had to learn to embrace them, know my bladder’s limits and just get on with it. It’s not something I’ve been able to change in the last year, although pelvic floors can help, and I don’t think it’ll get too much better in the future either.

“Oooops moments” do not have to be about motherhood and your bladder, they are around us every day! Come out of a toilet cubicle with tissue attached your shoe? We’ve all been there. That cute little dress you’ve been dying to wear; did you flash your knickers when it got caught in the wind? Yep, been there too! They are everywhere, but it’s about not being bothered by them.

So how do I deal with my moments? Without a doubt it’s being prepared. If I’m going out I’ll fix my make up in place with a setting mist. Keeping a sewing kit in your cupboard is pretty handy too. I always find myself looking for safety pins, or cotton and thread. Nail polished remover pads are good to have in your stash, they get rid of that scrappy and chipped look quick sharp, unless that’s the look you’re going for and of course make up wipes are, without a doubt, my go to product! They can fix a variety of issues!

One of the things I always have in my bag now is TENA. I need them for anything that’s dynamic or requires me to move quickly, and at pace; running, the gym, playing netball. They are unbelievably discreet, which is amazing, as I used to be so put off wearing any kind of pad ‘down there’ when I was a teenager because I was convinced people would hear it rustling or be able to see it.

So I’m here to tell you, along with TENA, that there are foolproof solutions to make it easier to deal with everyday moments.  These preventions and solutions will empower you and show the world that nothing needs to be a big deal. Certainly not light bladder weakness.
