Dusty’s my name and cleanings my game. Well, actually, it’s not. But Dusty is the name of this incredibly cool garbage truck.
The best thing ever for kids, well mine anyway, is emptying their boxes of all their toys. The worst bit for them is the tidy up and that usually gets left to me. There’s only so many ‘tidy up’ games I can create and I have about a sixty second window for them to be engaged and on my side because after that… it’s game over.
Until one day ‘Mr Dusty The Garbage Truck’ rolled into our house. Ok, so he didn’t literally roll in, he was delivered very kindly for this particular review, but he does run on wheels.
What Does Dusty The Garbage Truck Do?
Dusty basically gets the kids tidying up their small toys without even realising it; pretty much because they’re still playing with a toy! Dusty gets pushed along, across the top of small toys, such as lego and small cars, only to sweep them up like ‘garbage’. The kids think it’s great because their toys get ‘eated up by Dusty and goes in his belly’ and I think it’s great because I have less to tidy up!
If there’s something Dusty can’t quite grab or the boys want to add to Dusty’s storage they can even drop the toys down his chute. Once Dusty is full up, they can simply tip his storage truck up and empty him out where they can start all over again.
Does Dusty The Garbage Truck Actually Work?
Unbelievably he actually does! I’ve seen something with a similar mechanism to Dusty and felt a bit disappointed but the toys really do get swept up and he’s not too fussy about what he takes either provided that they’re not too big.
He works on our laminate floors and short haired carpets but did struggle on my, slightly, fluffier carpet but that’s understandable. Obviously don’t try to use him on gravel or anything, but he will also work outdoors on paving, tiles, and flat concrete – amazing.
What About Dusty’s Sounds?
Straight up one of the least annoying toys we’ve ever had. With over 50 phrases and sounds, Dusty is incredibly encouraging and funny and some of the stuff he comes out with makes even me laugh – I started this post with one of them!
If Dusty is left switched on and the kids aren’t doing anything he’ll pretend to snore and try to get them to use him again and again. Plus he’ll remind you to empty his storage compartment.
If the batteries run out (Dusty comes with batteries included by the way – WIN!) then Dusty will still be able to clean and sweep up toys without being actually switched on; the only benefit of being switched on is the sounds.
I have to say the boys have had more than one argument over Dusty and I’m sure there’ll be more to come! He is fun, cool and helps me with the cleaning! What’s not to love?
