Keeping Up With The Bump | Week 24

It’s week 24 and apart from being exhausted – I’m pregnant with you, Toby is poorly and I haven’t had a full night’s sleep in ages – I’m actually doing alright! I forgot to take a picture this week as we’d been really busy with potentially moving back into the kitchen but let’s see if you can tell the difference next week against week 23’s picture.

What’s Happening To You In Week 24?

You’re now about a foot long, and boy can I feel you! I’m sporting a rather more round tummy, although I think I’m carrying you differently to Toby. When I was 24 weeks pregnant with Toby I could rest a cup of tea comfortably on my bump, but I can’t with you just yet.

You’re still pretty lean, but it won’t be long before you’re piling on the pounds (but not too many please!). Your brain is growing quickly and your tastebuds are developing continuously. Right about now I’d say you like anything because I still can’t stop eating. Your lungs are now developing the “branches” as well as the cells that will product surfactant – this is what will help inflate your lungs once you’re born. Your skin is still quite thin, but when you start getting a bit bigger this will soon change. The organs in your ears have developed a bit more so you can now work out my heartbeat from my voice.

If you were to be born you’d now be considered “viable”, even though extremely premature. Every day counts now, and we’re also on the countdown to meet you!

What’s Happening To Mummy In Week 24?

Safe to say I’m a little less stressed than last week having found some clothes that fit me. I don’t have trouble with tops, it’s just the bottoms. I’ve had to send back 3 pairs of maternity jeans because they’re too big or feel horrible, and I’m having to “make do” with one of the pairs I ordered – I have to keep pulling them up every 5 minutes! However my lifesaver leggings have once again come to the rescue (thank you Next) and while they’re a little bit long in the leg, they don’t fall down – hurray – so I’ll probably live and die in these now until I can fit back into my size 8s (Ha. Dee. Ha)

My uterus, so I’ve read on one of my apps, is now the size of a football! And I’ve got to be honest, it looks like I’ve swallowed one at the minute, though that could be partly due to the huge food baby I’m also carrying because I can’t stop eating. I don’t feel like I can get enough food. I always moan at your daddy about eating his way through the cupboards and that he’s being greedy, yet here I am, unable to satiate my hunger. If I feel full up after a meal, within an hour I’m pretty hungry again.

We’re all hoping to move back into the house at some point this weekend. I’m told there are a few things left to do, painting being one of them, but we might be able to at least go in and start moving stuff back into the kitchen. Once the kitchen is done, I suppose we ought to start on your nursery really – I think we might do it a nice pale green this time, seeing as Toby already has a blue room. I hope you don’t think you’re getting the raw end of the deal by us giving you the smallest room in the house, but there’s no point you having a bigger room than Toby, and I need somewhere to put my face on in the morning.

I was due to see the Health Visitor yesterday, but I only opened the letter yesterday and ended up ringing frantically to rearrange, especially as there was nowhere for us to sit at home and Toby and I had Water Babies in the afternoon, so we’d have been rushed.

  • I loved my maternity leggings (embarrassingly I still wear them still and Sophie is 4 months old!!)

Pale green for the nursery sounds lovely – hope you get settled in soon x
