Keeping Up With The Bump | Week 28

We’re on week 28 and we’re now well on our way to getting towards that all important due date of May 30th, but when will you actually arrive? Hopefully we’ll know soon enough, but let’s just say I think you’ll be here a little earlier!

Keeping up with the bump - week 28

What’s Happening To You In Week 28?

You’re “blinking” mad you are! Your eyes are partially open and you’re able to blink, although your eyes still don’t have their colour yet. Did you know they need exposure to light to get the final pigmentation? That’s probably why lots of babies eye colours change over the course of their first year, but we can almost guarantee you’re going to have blue eyes as I do, Daddy does and Toby does.

There’s still so much growing for you to do, but this week it looks like you’ve been eating all the pies – you’re getting a bit chubbier my friend! It’s not all bad though because your muscles are developing a little bit of tone too – Daddy will be jealous! Did you know if you were to come this week, you’d have a 95% chance of survival – you would, of course, still need some medical assistance as your lungs aren’t quite there yet, but it’s very reassuring nonetheless, especially as I did some gardening today, and everyone knows that’s what started my labour off with Toby. I’ll have to keep an eye on this back ache and hope my waters don’t break at 2.30am.

Your brain is all “groovy” on the surface and it’s also developed more tissue. Oh, and lucky you.. your testes are now migrating down. In other news, I’ve been able to feel your foot, hand or elbow (I’m not sure which) as you’re quite the poker from the inside. You are very active, especially as you manage to wake me up in the night too. Thank you for dropping a little bit further down though, it’s eased the heartburn, but will you please stop jumping on my bladder? It’s very uncomfortable!

What’s Happening To Mummy In Week 28?

According to a couple of my apps and weekly emails, I’m meant to have gained quite a bit of weight (anywhere between 17-24 pounds). Wait.. what? I don’t even think I’ve put on a stone yet. Does this mean I can eat more and not feel guilty about it? I’ve just made a cake, maybe I’ll have two slices instead of one! Or maybe that’s wishful thinking. Oh wait – it’s recommended I have a further 200 calories a day in my third trimester. I’d better do that, professional advice and all that!

My back is KILLING me! It never ached this much with Toby, I used to get rib ache with him. As I said above, my heartburn has gone (for now), but I need to pee about a thousand times a day now. I have been non stop thinking about getting your bedroom sorted. I really want that chest of drawers so I can wash all of your clothes and sort lots of other things out so I can just relax about it a bit. However, one thing that has made my week is that I won a changing bag and a blanket. I’d already gotten myself a lovely Pink Lining bag but the one I’ve won is absolutely beautiful and I’m going to have to make a decision about which one I should use!

By the way, did you know I can no longer see my vagina?! Not even if I try and look from the side. Nope, it’s really gone. Just as I’m sure my feet will soon disappear when you get a bit bigger. I’m starting to thinking that actually I’m bigger this time round, although I am (fingers crossed) still managing to avoid the stretch marks for now.

We have a midwife appointment tomorrow so hopefully that will go well. We might be able to tell how you’re presenting, though I suspect you’ll be so wriggly she won’t know your bum from your head. Fingers crossed we’ll also have more news on your delivery method on Tuesday morning when I see the GP for an update.

Here we are in week 28. Yep! I’ve had a hair cut!
