Down The Aisle | 15 Weeks To Go

We’re another week closer and I think I’ve finally managed to make a small dent in some of the wedding plans. It still doesn’t mean I’m any closer to feeling less stressed. At first it was making sure all the big things were booked that was stressing me out, but now it’s all the little things. You know, the things nobody else will notice, but I will. That’s just so typical, right?

So, what have I managed to get done?

• I’ve managed to order place cards and table numbers. After a lot of deliberation, I’ve just tried to keep it simple and rustic and I’ve gone with some kraft card styled ones which I think will sit beautifully!

• I finally got round to chasing the flower wholesalers last week who confirmed they had read my email but had totally forgotten about it – charming. She promised she’d get back to me by the end of last week and hasn’t, so I shall be ringing her again tomorrow.
• I still need to chase those cake and macaron samples (makes promise to self to message cake lady as soon as she’s finished writing this post).
• I found my veil, yay! But the price was a big no, boo. I really want the Rainbow Club Flame veil. I actually found it in a sale for £99 but by the time I’d put my card details in, it had sold out. I think I almost cried.
• Still need to sit down and do the music list. Not only for the entrance and exit music, but we really want to give the DJ a list of songs we’d like to be played. So, you tell me, if you had to choose one song to dance to at a wedding, what would it be?
• I’ve decided we need three chalkboards – one for the guestbook, one for the selfie booth and one for the dance floor, oh and we still need to decide what our wedding hashtag is going to be!
• I still have all the other things from last week to do if I haven’t managed to get them done here.

Tonight, I’ve not heard the greatest news about my dress, so here’s a bit of background. When I initially tried the dress on, it was a size 12 and pretty much too big everywhere. However, when the dress shop took my measurements, my hips were coming out as a 14 on their manufacturer’s size guide. They were very insistent that I get a size 14 despite my other measurements being much smaller than this – it took 3 of them to decide what was best to do in the end. It is very true that it’s easier to remove material than it is to add it, so I went with it.

However, I actually managed to try on the same dress in a size 14 in another bridal shop when I was shopping for bridesmaids gowns. It looked ridiculous and had way more material than I would have ever needed. It was so bad that I actually said had I tried that dress on in that shop, I wouldn’t have looked twice at it.

I have since expressed my concerns to the shop where I’d ordered my wedding dress from and they assure me that it is totally ok for it to be altered and obviously, as they’re the professionals, you take their word for it. However, due to the amount of detail on the dress, which is mounted on sheer mesh with a neckline, I now have major concerns about where the material will be taken from and how it’s going to affect the overall look of the dress. Personally, I think it will look totally different to the dress I’ve chosen once the alterations have been done.

Today I contacted a highly recommended seamstress, to whom I sent over pictures of my wedding dress and explaining my concerns. And, just as I thought, she told me she could absolutely understand my concern. She’s told me that the motifs may be spoiled when the dress is altered. She has advised that I speak with the shop and take the dress on the basis that, if it cannot be successfully altered, I will take it back. However, the terms and conditions I’ve signed state that once the dress has been paid in full and has left the shop, it is in no way returnable. So, yay! I am now in full panic mode because this dress is not cheap and I want it to fit me perfectly.

I am now beyond worried that I am going to have to find another dress in record time, or settle for less than I wanted on my wedding day because I believe they may have effectively mis-sold the dress to me. What do I do?

Other than that, I’m now getting on e-bay to find me some selfie props for our selfie booth! Yay!
