Mumbod Monday – Week 5

It’s week 5 of Mumbod Monday and argggh, last week was so frustrating! I started out with all good intentions, honestly, but managed ONE gym session all week, and that was with my personal trainer on Tuesday, followed by netball in the evening. But then life got in the way as usual; a couple of things came up and I just didn’t get round to it, which is a pretty pathetic excuse, so I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself right now.

My diet, apart from breakfast, pretty much went out the window, although I wasn’t totally eating rubbish, and my water intake was dreadful. I really need something to keep me going with the fluids as I’m one of these people who don’t feel thirsty until I’m really dehydrated so it really is a conscious effort, which is easier said than done when you’re running around after two kids and trying to keep up with everything else house wise. God knows what it’ll be like when I go back to work in February, I’m really going to need more of a routine.

I’m determined to make more of an effort this week and all being well I can really try and crack on with it. I have one PT session booked for Thursday so I’ll need to make the effort to get there on some other days too.

When it comes to the diet, the one I have just isn’t realistic for a busy mum. It requires measuring out specific quantities and the selection is very limited in my opinion, so I’m after suggestions on what to follow, despite it working VERY well in the first month, it’s just not sustainable.

Anyway.. measurements. I told you last week I had them and I wasn’t lying. I’ll go right back to the first time I was measured, before I started working out.

Measurements 18th August 2015

Bicep % – 8
Tricep % – 16
Scapular % – 16
Hip % – 16
Waist (inches) – 35
Hip (inches) – 37.5

This left me with a caliper reading of 27.8, which was in the “green area” but towards the higher end of being out of shape. If you don’t know about skin calipers, and/or how they work, it’s a common way of determining body fat composition and there’s lots of articles on how it works on the “Google”. Anyway, fast forward a month and this happened.

Measurements 18th September 2015

Bicep % – 7 (-1)
Tricep % – 14 (-2)
Scapular % – 11 (-5)
Hip % – 12 (-4)
Waist (inches) – 34 (-1)
Hip (inches) – 34.5 (-3)

Woohoo, in a month I’d lost a total of 3 inches and 12% of my body fat. This was actually my 6 month target, and I smashed it in a month which I was so chuffed with. I was being super good on the diet, and really making an effort despite how restrictive and time consuming it was and clearly it gets results, but as I said before, in the long run it’s not viable for me. Even so, this reading meant I was slap bang in the middle of the “green” area on the chart – apparently lean and mean, although I can assure you I am not lean (or mean)! So, even with eating a bit of rubbish here and there, another 6 weeks passed and I got measured again.

Measurements 3rd November 2015

Bicep % – 6 (-1)
Tricep % – 14 (0)
Scapular % – 11 (0)
Hip % – 10 (-2)
Waist (inches) – 33 (-1)
Hip (inches) – 34 (-0.5)

Yep, not as great as the first month but results nonetheless right? Considering I didn’t hit the gym for 10 days due to being poorly, just generally not going because life gets in the way sometimes, a not-as-good-as-it-could-be diet and less fluid intake, I still had some results. In my very first post I took some pictures of what I looked like just as I’d had my second measurements taken and this is what I look like now;
