This week was likely to be the most expensive week of the year for us. EVERYTHING seems to be due in March; our car insurance (yes, both cars), home insurance and my car’s MOT and service. What a bloody shocker. That £1,000 gone before I’ve even had a chance to register it in my bank account. Oh, not forgetting I taxed the flipping thing last month too.
Aside from that it started as it usually does. We went to the gym pit on Monday morning with a friend and Toby absolutely loves just being able to run around in a big huge space, and I love that I don’t have to worry about him hurting himself because everything is soft and bouncy! (The only worry sometimes is the older, bolshier kids whose parents stand there having a mother’s meeting and use it like a babysitting service).
We did have a little giggle at the end though as my friend’s little girl started getting upset because she wanted to go upstairs “for a coffee” and we didn’t have time that day. Possibly one of the cutest things I’ve ever heard.
Our other friend and her little boy came round in the afternoon and it was lovely to see Toby playing with someone his own age. We do have other friends with children, but they’re about 10 months older than him and are into different toys, or know exactly what to do with them, so it’s refreshing to have someone that little bit closer in age to him.
Wednesday was the day of the dreaded MOT but it passed with flying colours, thankfully! It just cost the bloody earth once the service had been added on to it.. a lovely sum of £309, thank you very much! On the upside, I got a lovely little delivery from Little Hankies, with whom I won a competition. Thursday was quite productive! It was very stressful to begin with due to missing my 28 week bloody test appointment. As our town must have 2 or 3 lots of roadworks going on at any one time, add in some school traffic and people who don’t know how to drive, my usually 5 minute journey turned into 40 minutes. Not forgetting I got stopped by two trains!
On the upside, I had my hair highlighted and a very long 4 inches cut right off. I didn’t really want to cut that much off but it was more out of necessity due to the split ends and dryness. Here’s a little before and after shot;
We also had a very lovely delivery of Tots Bots, which we’re going to add to our collection of reusable nappies. If you’ve read my Changes in 2015 post you’d know that we’re looking at moving from disposables to cloth so this is just a step closer to us achieving those goals, especially since we’ve already invested in Cheeky Wipes and are currently in the process of seeing how things go with those.
In other VERY exciting news, I had my oven cleaned professionally. After having a nice new kitchen installed, and deciding to keep our old appliances, it definitely need a new lease of life and there’s only so much Oven Pride can do. It wasn’t that dirty compared to some ovens I’ve seen but it definitely needed more elbow grease than I could’ve given it, and at £50, I thought it was a bargain. I can’t believe at 25, one of the highlights of my day is getting my oven cleaned… *sigh*
So Friday it was up off the hospital with me to get my bloods done, and I had to pay £2.60 in parking for 30 minutes, an absolute rip off and I was livid! The GP finally phoned, and after a bit of faff with a missed call, managed to book an appointment for Tuesday morning to discuss the outcome of her conversation with my consultant. We did have Water Babies again today and Toby finally understands how to ‘monkey monkey monkey’ across the wall!
Saturday and Sunday I was an absolute domestic goddess. If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you will know that my house was sparkling from top to bottom, I’d caught up with all the washing and even got down to the bottom of my ironing basket. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of a clean house..
..until 10 minutes later anyway!

Your hair looks lovely! We always seem to have one month where everything seems to be costing the earth, I dream of a lottery win….but then I guess I better start buying tickets!!

Thank you, I do miss my long hair though! Oh it’s the worst isn’t it? Just to see your bank balance dwindling dreaming about what you could’ve spent it on. I don’t think I can afford a lottery ticket to be in with a chance after this month haha xx
