What’s Happening To You In Week 33?

Last week, I mentioned that your bones were still hardening and they’re doing the same this week. However, your skull is still not solid and the bones have not yet fused together. This won’t happen completely until some time after you’re born. It allows for your head to reduce in diameter as you’re passing through the birth canal, although you’re coming out of the sunroof!

Your brain is on a roll developing more distinct functions. It can now control your body temperature, breathing and digestive functions to name a few. Plus, you can now completely tell the difference between day and night, though you wouldn’t know it the way you party sometimes! Your lungs are pretty much ready for breathing on their own and should you be born right this second, you’d only need a small amount of medical assistance.

You’re about the size of a honeydew melon, weighing around 4lb, give or take. Toby was only 6lb 15.5oz at birth, but you’re meant to put on around half a pound a week now up until you’re ready to come out which, by the way, we have a date for! EEK.

What’s Happening To Mummy In Week 33?

Mummy’s lower back has really been playing up, especially the last couple of days – which is why this update is late! I couldn’t stay up last night as I was so uncomfortable and had to go and lay down in bed with my lovely jubbly pregnancy pillow. The sciatica was back down my right leg and I had restless legs again. This is all new to me as I didn’t have any of this with Toby. Maybe my body is a bit too relaxed about it this time.

I’m not doing well with the breathlessness. I get it for most of the day and I sound like a huffing puffing heifer. Couple that with the fact that I feel absolutely huge and I get days when I feel a bit rubbish and have had enough. Oh, by the way, you’re up to your tricks again… please get off of my bladder. I can’t stop going for a wee!

I am beyond ecstatic that we finally have a date for your arrival but we haven’t told anyone; mainly because I can’t be doing with texts and phone calls asking if you’re here yet! However, I am under no illusions that you will turn up on that day – I’m fully expecting them to tell me they don’t have enough time that day and to “come back tomorrow”. Oh yeah, and both your daddy and I think you’ll be here earlier anyway! It’s a little bit too close to your due date for my liking but that’s just how it is. At least we can, more or less, have bags and babysitting in place so that if anything does happen, we’re ready to go.

I’ve been doing lots of little bits to your nursery this week. Just general tidying up and finding places for things, speaking of which I should probably sort out the storage!

Here we are in week 33!
