There are so many things that have the power to transform a room. But one thing that can make such a drastic difference without changing the whole decor, especially in a bedroom, is curtains. You might not think curtains are as important as new bedroom furniture, or some lovely new bedside lamps, but I honestly can’t tell you how important they are.
Windows are the focal points of most rooms and so I feel that they need to be dressed appropriately for the room they’re in. They can create or fit a theme you might have, they can draw a mood out of you and they can provide a feel of what you’d like your space to say.
Our curtains were here when we moved in and I have to be honest, I hate them. We’ve never replaced them as we’ve always used the money to spend elsewhere in the house, but now the summer is here I’m reminded of how totally boring, plain and utterly useless they are. They’re white and linen and don’t do anything to block the light out from the early morning sunrise. So, I’ve been looking at some new curtains and I’ve got a few ideas in mind. Here are my top 5 choice of curtains to not only transform my bedroom and keep out the early morning light, but uplift it and offer a focal point in the bedroom.
I really love these curtains. They’re plain and simple and I love that they’re floor length. I think that always adds class and an elegance to a room – the bedroom being perfect. Not only that, but these blackout curtains from Yorkshire Linen Co would save us buying two blackout blinds, since we already have some venetian blinds set into the window and they don’t do much to help either.
I chose the silver colour because our room is quite plain, and I think these would be in keeping and they’re not overly bold so wouldn’t look out of place. I have previously worked with Yorkshine Linen on some bedding products and now this is one of my go to websites for bedding/bedroom decor as I loved the quality of the products from there.
I don’t think I’ve ever been brave enough yet to opt for a patterned curtain, but these ones from Next are killing me right now! I love the geometric print, I think they bring colour and shape into the room without being in your face and these would certainly draw attention to a window space. These would fit perfectly into our bedroom right now, especially with the grey tones.
Adding a Dramatic Curtain
Ok, so these aren’t blackout curtains but they do look flippin’ gorgeous. If I had the know how, the money and the right room for these drama inducing drapes then I am up for that. One day perhaps. They look more like voile than curtains but they’re just so pretty and feminine without it being too girly for the men. I think I’d probably opt for a darker tone along with the cream just for extra drama and opposites attract, right?
Bright and Bold Curtains
Now I know for a fact you’d totally have to have the right room to pull these off. I love bright and I love bold, but even these are stretch for me, although I can’t help thinking how much they make me smile and would brighten my mood. I do actually adore them, and the fact that they’re mismatched too.
I think mismatched curtains are amazing after seeing these. You can always pull one over more than the other or have them equally drawn. It gives you the choice of having a bold print with a simple edge, or a simple bold and plain colour with a print edge – depending on how you feel. I love the colour of these too – so uplifting! Someone please tell me where I can get these exact ones?
These curtains have everything I’m looking for. An elegant drop, not overly bold and bright, a nice and ‘easy on the eye’ pattern and floor length. These would look gorgeous with a couple of tasseled tie backs. The neutral tones would complement our room beautifully and would make a feature of the room without being too dramatic.
These are from George at Asda believe it or not and I’m totally tempted to redecorate our bedroom. It’s not been done in over 3 years now, so probably could do with a bit of an update.
Curtains aren’t just for closing in the evening. They can breathe life into a room, shift your mood and change the whole feel of space. They are like wall art and I sometimes find that if you don’t have curtains, it can feel a bit minimalistic, rather than homey. Which reminds me, I need to get some curtains for my living room! Remember it’s about bringing a mood to the room while showing your personality. Don’t let your bedroom be just another room. Make it yours!
