Making Our House A Home | The Garden Part Three

We’ve been doing the garden, if you couldn’t guess, and it’s something that’s needed attention for quite some time now and I’m so glad we’ve got the majority of the work done just in time for some (hopefully) better weather. There are a few finishing touches we need but they’ll all take place gradually. It’s almost finally finished and I can’t wait to see what it’s going to look like once everything has settled in and the grass has started growing. Oh and when we have a new shed too!

I don’t know if you’ve seen a picture of what my garden looked like before, but there are a couple in the last two posts that you can probably get an idea from and the panoramic photo below doesn’t do it much justice of how terrible it really was.

So, the work started last Monday, a week later than we had anticipated but let me tell you it was worth the wait. Here are some of the after pictures!

As you can see the vegetable patches, shingle and old bits of patio have been removed and the concrete taken up where that recess into the grass is, as well as getting rid of the old post holders – hurray!

The border at the back has been halved, filled with shingle and a mesh laid underneath to help with the weeds. The border to the right has been totally dug over, and now has turf laid over the top, which kind of makes us think we should have turfed the whole garden, oops!

The old vegetable patch space has been levelled out and patio slabs have been laid over the top to give the boys somewhere to ride their bikes and play with their toys.

We’ve been left to seed the bare patches in the grass, especially where we had the trampoline, it’s completely killed everything off. The neighbours to the back of us have also implied they want to change the fence, but since it’s our boundary it’ll be our responsibility and we’re not keen on changing it if it really doesn’t need doing, so we’ll see.

The new shed is due to go up around July(ish) and we’ve also started looking at garden furniture as we haven’t got any! We also need to pressure wash the decking, and then give it a good stain as it’s looking a bit sorry for itself, so that’ll be a job for the warmer weather and I’ll take a day where I can just get on with it and it’ll obviously look amazing.

Finally I’ll be able to open the door on a nice day and let the boys roam around the garden without worrying if they’re going to smack their head on a metal post, or hurt themselves on a protruding screw! Roll on Summer!
