Keeping Up With The Bump | Week 22

It’s my second update for my second pregnancy (you can read my first update here!) and we’re on week 22! I have no idea where the last week has gone though!

Whats Happening To You During Week 22?

You’re getting a big boy now – around 11 inches crown to heel – and you weigh roughly one whole pound! I’m beginning to feel you move a lot more and I’m starting to recognise when you’re awake, which is usually when I’m about to go to sleep! All of your movements are now very deliberate; I guess you’re trying to coordinate everything for those full on whacks I can expect to feel in the next few weeks.

If you have any hair, which you’re likely to have since your big brother came out with a whole head full, we’re not sure what colour it will be as there’s no pigment in there yet. Exactly the same as your eyes, the irises won’t have a colour yet either (99% sure they’ll be big and blue like Toby’s). Your brain is expected to experience some rapid growth and development this week too.

What’s Happening To Mummy During Week 22?

My tummy still looks about the same size as it did last week. I think you’ve been laying towards the back though as some days this week I’ve looked a lot smaller. I’ve been getting quite a lot of leg cramps and they’ve felt quite restless, especially at night time. I’ve not had much backache though, which I’m pleased about, as I have to keep picking Toby up. He’s going through a leap in his development too so he’s a little bit clingy (I don’t mind really, the opportunity for a cuddle is most welcome). I’m more or less always hungry, even after a meal. At this point though it’s not about calories, it’s about nutrition, so I’ve not been scoffing like I feel I’d like to.

I have a midwife appointment tomorrow so I might even get to hear your heartbeat for the first time! It’s all very exciting. I’ve got lots of questions for her, especially since I’ve been reading a lot about “natural caesareans” and it’s something I’d really like to explore further before making a set decision. I’ve been wondering whether I would need a birth plan seeing as I’m having a c-section and feel that if I can’t control that part of your birth, I’d at least like to control the environment that you’re born into. I’d really love it to be an experience I enjoy this time round and one that I can remember.

Anyway, I hope you’re lovely and warm in there, it’s pretty cold today! I’ve even got my dressing gown on over my clothes – brr!
