It’s week 39 and this has been one hell of a ride hasn’t it? I can’t believe we’re here, knowing that this time next week I will have a newborn baby boy in my arms. While the last few weeks have dragged, getting down to single figure days has come around quickly and while we are totally prepared, I don’t feel it!
I really wanted to vlog this update, but Toby has been so poorly the last couple of days, as well as doing lots of other boring stuff like tidying up, that I’ve not even had a chance to turn the camera on.
What’s Happening To You In Week 39?
You’re taking frequent and regular trips to the loo, but only for a wee! Most of your baby hair has shed, and any that’s left over tends to more or less rub off soon after birth anyway. You’ve turned into quite the chub, still accumulating plenty of fat under the skin and you digestive system is now fully capable of digesting liquid foods, but you won’t be having smoothies or soups just yet.. only milkies for you!
Although your muscles are pretty strong now, you’re not getting much of a chance to work them out, so the abs will have to wait I’m afraid, there’s just no room for you to do weights in there! You’re doing your best to make room, mind.. you’re really hurting me every time you throw a punch.
You’re head down, 3/5 engaged and constantly changing which side you prefer to lay. One day I feel toes on the right, then the next on the left. I hope this doesn’t mean you’re going to be a total fidget when you’re here.
What’s Happening To Mummy In Week 39?
PRESSURE! And there’s so much of it, all through my hoo haa and bottom. It’s so hard to get comfortable because your head, while in the right position, is causing me so much discomfort. The lightning pains are sometimes unbearable and I have to physically lift my bump up to try and relieve the feeling.
Sciatica is ever present and I’ve been having lots of niggles and aches the last couple of days that feel like the onset of labour, but then they’ll go – certainly nothing intense enough for me to think I need to get to the hospital anyway.
I can’t stop itching either; my heels especially, but also the heels of my hands! I won’t miss that.
Oh yeah, did I mention that my hospital bag still isn’t finished? At this precise moment I have everything I need ready to go apart from an outfit to come home in. I did pop into town on Wednesday to get some things, only to find actually they’re no good and I’ll need to order some stuff, which I have, but it won’t be here to pick up until Tuesday – OOPS! I’ll probably end up coming home in some of Daddy’s pyjama bottoms.. but maybe not the ones with a hole in.. haha.
Here is our LAST picture together at 39 weeks.. I’ll be sad to see this bump go, but relieved that I’ll be able to breathe again.
So week 39 is my very last update but in case you’ve missed any of my updates, you can find weeks 21-38 below! I truly hope you’ve enjoyed ‘keeping up with the bump’ and watching it grow (or not) some weeks, but next week will hopefully mark the start of a new weekly update idea I have. I can’t wait to show you all the new arrival!
