Were on week 27 which means there’s only 13 to go. I’ll soon be moving out of my second trimester into the third and final one – how scary is that? It doesn’t seem like five minutes ago I found out I was pregnant!
What’s Happening To You In Week 27?
If you were born this week, you’d have an 80-95% chance of survival, depending on the surrounding factors of course, but that’s such good news. I had a dream about you being born early last night and it was pretty weird. I delivered you myself and even gave myself the c-section, but you came out as big as Toby.
You’re becoming very, very active. Either that, or you’re just so cramped I can literally feel every move you make. The amniotic fluid you’re in has decreased slightly too. You’re busy practising the sucking reflex – that’ll come in pretty handy for feeding, hey? Your brain, as always, is still developing. Specifically your brain tissue and neurons, so you’re thinking more like a newborn baby. The joints in your body aren’t connected yet, however your skeleton is completely developed – woohoo!
We obviously know you’re a boy so we can just about gather that your testes have now finished their descent. Your immune system is beginning to mature too and that, along with your lungs and liver, are preparing to work on their own.
You seem to be pretty comfy in there and you’re still favouring the left hand side. We’ve also just painted your nursery – it’s green and we absolutely love it. I’ll love it even more once it’s furnished and ready for you to move into.
What’s Happening To Mummy In Week 27?
My uterus is sitting pretty close to my ribcage about now and I’m really struggling with shortness of breath, especially at night. It’s bizarre that I’m only aware of it in the evenings but that’s the time where I start to relax and maybe I pay more attention to it, I’m not sure.
I’ve also started having to wee more frequently. Your sudden movements usually take my bladder by surprise and I feel the need to go, even though it’s the tiniest bit of wee ever.
Gaviscon at the ready – I got the first episode of heartburn on Thursday night. It wasn’t nice and, although the turkey chilli and chocolate brownie probably didn’t help, they were so worth it. I get uncomfortable easily and find myself tossing and turning on the sofa, on the bed and fidgeting around on chairs too.
I’m in the middle of a run of appointments with consultants, GPs and the midwife to work out how best to deliver you. I’m still desperate for a natural birth, but there are conflicting opinions on the way they feel you should arrive. Two consultants have told me caesarean and two more have told me it’s fine. I’ve got to wait until I’m 32 weeks to, hopefully, find out the options available.
Here we are in week 27. I didn’t get a picture last week so you may have to go back to week 25 to see the difference!

Ahh heartburn!!! Was the bane of my pregnancy for the last month I think. Amelia was breech and her head was resting on my right rib cage and I honestly had to sleep upright as it was so awful. I couldn’t bend over or pick something up without getting that acidy sicky feeling. So I totally feel for you!!! I remember thinking how weird it was that it just stopped when she was born. I so hope you get to have the delivery your after but all that matters is that baby arrives safely and your both healthy!! Thanks so much for linking up hope to see you again tomorrow!! #MummyMonday xx
Luckily it seems to have subsided slightly! I wasn’t as bad as you though, that sounds terrible, you poor thing. It’s amazing what happens to your body as soon as their born, it’s like it’s completely forgotten about it already. Fingers crossed for the GP appointment today to see what she says but I have a feeling we’re going to go for the c section anyway. Thanks for hosting lovely xx
Sorry to hear you’ve been suffering heartburn, I’m praying I don’t suffer this time – I was lucky with my first! Gorgeous bump, you’re definitely glowing 🙂 #mummymonday xx
I’m sure there are worse things I could have, right? It’s just annoying. You’re so lucky, maybe as you’re having a boy this time you might be different. Thanks hun, I feel “hooge” (as we say round here) x
Lovely bump photo, i miss being pregnant when i read this x #MummyMondays
I went back to see your week 25 photo – you can def see your bump is bigger. Did you have much heartburn with your first pregnancy? I used to wake up in the night and have to eat Rennies. Sophie was born with loads of hair – according to old wive’s tales that’s why I had so much heartburn! Thanks for linking up to #bloggebumps
I can’t see the difference day by day, so it really helps to have these updates to see how much I have actually grown. I had LOTS of heartburn with Toby, I had to sleep propped up and drank Gaviscon like water some days, it was awful. He didn’t have that much hair though. Thanks for running the linky lovely x
