Keeping Up With The Bump | Week 29

It’s week 29 and compared to last week I feel like you’ve had a bit of a growth spurt. I think I do look a little bit bigger but I definitely feel a whole lot rounder.

What’s Happening To You In Week 29?

Piling on weight like there’s no tomorrow, you’re probably around the same size as a butternut squash – around 2.5lbs. If you were able to stand up you’d measure knee-high to a grasshopper – about 35cm. You’ve taken over maintaining your own body temperature and control your own breathing. All of your internal organs are maturing and they’re well on their way to functioning once you’re born.

I’m feeling you more and more, you’re so active and have so much energy, and I’m pretty sure I can work out what’s your foot and what’s your elbow now. I even have an app telling me I should be able to tell when you cough. When I saw the midwife on Monday she told me you were head down already which is exactly where you should be.

Your irises now react to light a lot more by dilating and contracting. Your skin is also a little less wrinkly and is starting to look how it will when you’re born. The extra fat you’re putting on will help regulate your temperature once you’re not in the warmth of my tummy anymore. Your nutritional needs are about to peak so I’ll need to make sure I’ve got those extra 200 calories a day for the last 11 weeks!

What’s Happening To Mummy In Week 29?

Revenge of the heartburn! It’s back with a vengeance and I’ve had it ALL day today. I’m also experiencing shortness of breath again. Oh and leg cramps.. hello! I feel like I’m getting it all this week.

Your big brother Toby is also quite restless at the moment. He’s been poorly this week so it’s been really draining on me as he’s been waking up in the night. Add in the tiredness from carrying you around, as well as the general housework and you have one tired mummy on your hands. I’m hoping that on Monday night I’ll get an early night in and make the most of the extra hour, or two, because I really need it.

Space is becoming tight and my belly is beginning to feel really stretched. I can also tell you’re becoming cramped because, as I said above, I can feel you a lot more.

I’ve been making a list of what needs to go in my hospital bag since it’s now been 100% decided that you’re coming out of the sunroof. Yep, that’s right, we’ve all agreed it’s best for me to have a caesarean. I am so gutted because I had so set my heart on the 1% chance that I’d be able to have a natural birth with the backing of the GP and consultant, but it’s not the right thing for me to do.

Here we are at week 29!

  • Leg cramps & heartburn – yuk! Hope you get a bit of relief. It’s a shame that you can’t have the birth that you would like but I guess you have to do what is best for you both. I hope that Toby is feeling better.

Thanks for linking up to #bloggerbumps x

    • Yep, it’s horrible getting a few small things together! It is unfortunate but it’s best for my long term health and as long as the baby gets here fine and healthy it doesn’t matter which way it happens. Toby is still poorly and now the OH has it too, just me to go! Fingers crossed I don’t get it x

  • How exciting for you 😀 you’re just a week or so behind me. I can totally relate with heartburn and feeling baby move so much now they’re more cramped. Not long left now 🙂 hopefully you get some energy back soon! xx

    • Oh wow really? I love knowing other people who are due around the same time as me. I hope so, I think I probably need an early night! x
